bluesguitar65
Yngwie plays strats as well. Is he considered metal/shredder? It has already been proven years ago, strats with three single coils can be used for metal. IMHO....the best Iron Maiden line up and music was from the first album to powerslave. What do you say Steve? [flapper] I mean instead of moshing people should do a riverdance. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0vrDaAhI9k&feature=related

DonkeyKong
Man, you can do anything on a strat! Metal, Polka, the hokie-pokie...anything! :D
sneakerpimp
i've never said that, but i can achieve heavy sounds a lot more easily from a SG straight out of the box. i don't care much for the startocaster sound... nevermind their looks. surfpup
Notably most of the players cited have humbuckers in their Strats. Makes a big difference.

I knew you were going to say that! :) I'm not going to go there...at least not in this thread. All I will say is it needs to feel heavy...and thats a personal thing. bluesguitar65
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zm6AGd3qE5U Ah man, this is classic priest. Why aren't metal played this way anymore? Now, this is my favorite kind of metal. Thanks for posting this classic. This brings back memories from the late 70s and early 80 metal. The best metal IMHO. alexri
This sounds like the beginning of a long winded debate on what metal is. So what is metal? In my opinion it's a shared mindset. I think metal has always existed. The sound that constitutes it right now is just one of its many manifestations.
This_Dying_Soul
a strat may not be the ideal metal guitar, but with the correct pickups(preferably something that is less prone to 60 cycle hum than the typical single coil) will do wonders. FenderGuy1
Strats are really good for metal, i play surf rock and some ac/dc and maybe a little dimebag in there. sometimes i combine the surf sound with the ac/dc sound to make... THE AC/DC surf rock sound
