  1. Yes, do it Sal! You make the song sound real and you do it very well. I think they’ll really like it. Much more personal and heartfelt than if the commercial version was played by a DJ…….My only concern is you in a suit. Oh, and don’t pick your nose or do any scratching——remember, this ain’t a bar gig.
  2. Pretty much sez it all…….lol…. But don’t forget the Roman toga that comes with every Taylor.
  3. An Epi is often a nice guitar. Gibsons are, “more often than not,” great guitars. I’ve owned both and rarely get in any “it cost more, so does it sound ten times better?” debates, but for me an Epi is definitely not a Gibson. I don’t want another Epi. Likewise, I don’t want another Yamaha , Ibanez, etc…….I want a guitar that I can identify and bond with and that guitar has almost always been a Gibson. ……Just my opinion.
  4. Glad you got the guitar you needed. J45s are so damn sweet! You are going to love this guitar. It’ll become an extension of who you are.
  5. Awesome and very talented lady. Saw her in the mid-80’s when she had her Hot Band. Damn, she was hot and had the voice of an angel.
  6. Amen! I totally agree. As already alluded to, it all depends on the person playing the guitar, but in my opinion (and my opinion doesn’t mean I’m right and someone else is wrong) there’s no way I’d choose an Epi over a Gibson. I’ve had an Epi EJ200 and it was nice for the money, but in no way was it close to a J200. Had an Epi J45 (don’t think it was called a J45 at the time. Can’t recall the model name)—-anyway, definitely a decent instrument, but it wasn’t a J45. Yes, a Gibson guitar is typically several times more expensive than the various brands/models aimed at being a copy, but there really is (at least to me) something that is different and better in a real Gibson. An imitation, no matter how nice, is not a Gibson. There’s a special quality in a Gibson that is largely unnoticed, except by the player and maybe a handful in the audience, It might be the appearance, the sound, or maybe just the feel, but whatever it is it’s pretty damn cool to have a Gibson between you and your audience.……If you can afford the Gibson, get it!……Just my view.
  7. Things are opening-up around here. My regular gig for over eight years started-up (inside) about two months ago and they’re opening a new location later this year. I play there tomorrow at noon. Also, two new coffee shops have opened here in Independence and both are within 3 miles of me. Still waiting for Caribou Coffee to restart. Wineries have started again with their music. Also, playing a nursery (trees, shrubs) in two weeks. It’s kind of turning into a situation of “How many gigs do you want to play?”
  8. Doctors claim that rubbing coffee grinds over your naked body has a lot of health benefits……….Maybe so, but don’t do it at Starbucks! They’ll call the cops.
  9. Welcome back! You can always come back home. Glad you did.
  10. Went up to GC today. First time there I think since around last New Year’s. Just don’t buy much there anymore. One Gibson, a 2018 J45 Rosewood, 5 Martins, and a shitload of Taylors in their high dollar room.. Seems like most music gear is getting more expensive, at least at GC. Anyway, I needed a new music stand and harmonica holder.
  11. Yep! Just follow the money! It would be so easy for them to do something “grassroots,” that the average guy would automatically identify with. Someone who plays bars, wineries, coffeehouses in their own area talking about their Gibson and playing some Cash, Dylan, Lovin’ Spoonful, Baez, Lightfoot. Doesn’t have to be real technical, although Gibson could supply that at the start. The rest could be the “average Joe” doing a couple songs and telling what why he loves playing his Gibson. I would watch/listen to that.
  12. Yeah, doing something like this could get them on the news, along with increasing sales. I think a lot of guitar pickers would be talking about it.
  13. Exactly! I’d love to see them do something like NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert, focused on average, unknown folks who perform one or two songs with their Gibson guitar. I’ll be very surprised if it happens, but it would be cool if it did (but again, I doubt that it will).
  14. The best advice I can give? Do not study me! You will not graduate!
  15. Sweet-looking J200! These are really awesome guitars. A real “looker.” There’s something special about a J200. Whether you’re playing quietly playing at home or having it between you and an audience at a gig.
  16. Being mostly a solo act, I rehearse most every day (to one degree or another). I admire and envy you folks who are good enough to be in a real band.
  17. If they’re in their original packaging, I use them. Don’t know if I ever consider how long I might have had them. I prefer Martin SPs, but if they’re not available, I’ll use whatever is.
  18. Wise words! A good repair guy is usually the best answer. Unless you’ve got the skills, knowledge, and tools a lot of repairs belong in the hands of a pro. I can change strings, slightly tweak a truss rod, and glue-down a pick guard, but beyond that I’m better off having it done by a pro. I suspect that in most situations, a good setup will help make an “okay” guitar a great guitar that you enjoy playing.
  19. It’s all good! This stuff is fun and often leads to places we hadn’t even thought about.
  20. What the hell is this world coming to? Yesterday evening, I’m in my underwear, relaxing in a recliner, eating Doritos, drinking a can of beer, and watching Duck Dynasty and damn Walmart calls the cops!
  21. Yeah, those lounges with a guitar are cool. We just got back from The Wisconsin Dels and they had a large common area in the resort we stayed at (Wilderness Resort). They had an Alvarez there that wasn’t bad and a small sound system. It’s easy to sound good when you play just five songs that you actually do well…..lol…People think your better than you really are…..At least that’s how it worked for me….lol…lIt was fun.
  22. I’ve got everything on my IPad. Lyrics and chords. I use it on some songs. Just depends on the song. I’ve got around 150 songs on it and regularly play 50-60 of them. The rest I mix-in from time to time. Using the IPad is easy when I need it.
  23. You did the right thing getting the Standard. As already suggested, get the one your heart and mind are aimed at. It’s worth the time and money. Otherwise, you’ll likely be disappointed. Most high-dollar instruments ( like Gibson, Martin, Taylor, etc), unless the guitar is a real and obvious clunker are at least good guitars to begin with. Then, when purchased by someone who bonds with them, they become great guitars. All of my Gibsons are great guitars, as far as I’m concerned. A guitar is a real personal instrument. If it feels like an extension of who you are it’s likely a great guitar for you. ……Good luck with your J45 and welcome to the forum.
  24. These threads from the past are like wives: they remind us of things we said years ago.
  25. We had a great time today at my son and daughter-in-law’s house. Lots of family and friends. 35-40 people. Three of us played some songs, had lots of ice tea and a couple beers, and mountains of food.. Literally everyone was wearing something patriotic, which I found pretty cool. The 4th and Christmas are my favorite holidays. ……For me, this is truly an awesome place to live.
