Season's Greetings, Festive Season Regards...and a Clapton Question...
IanHenry replied to pippy's topic in The Gibson Lounge
Merry Christmas too everyone🎅 -
Might be worth dropping this chap a line, I think he knows everything there is to know about ES guitars: The Gibson ES-335 (es-335.org)

Those blokes really did know how to rock back then. A stark contrast to most of todays "pop" music.

That looks great, you must be very proud of your work😂

Congratulations Rabs, she's a beauty, I hope you enjoy it foe many years🙂

Is this a paint blemish on my new Les Paul Gold Top?
IanHenry replied to zntrimble's topic in The Gibson Lounge
It doesn't look much to worry about to me, however now that you've identified it there's always the problem that it's presence could bug you going forward, after all I'm presuming you're intending keeping and playing the guitar for years to come. At the end of the day it's your call. -
Looking to buy my first ever Gibson es335! Need advice from the experts!
IanHenry replied to nogingerno's topic in Gibson ES
You need to go out and play one, you may find that the difference in the neck isn't such a big deal. -
Mack, I think you'll find the biggest difference between the two will be the neck size, I have a 2014 Traditional and the neck of chunky to say the least, it's a lot bigger than my R8 (but I haven't played a 2018 model) and the 60's Standard will have a 60's slim taper one. Regarding the sound they're both Les Pauls so I would imagine you'll get the sound that your looking for regardless of which pickup type you go for. Play them if you can.

ddsax420, I think the only way that you'll answer your question is to take your time and go out and play both versions because it really is a personal thing. I have guitars with Humbuckers and P90's, I like both but to be honest I think the Humbuckers are more versatile. Steve, your in a tier 2 area, I'm envious being stuck in tier 3☹️

Found this on Youtube and I thought I'd share it. Sadly Styx didn't have very much success here in the U.K, I think they deserved more.

I don't know about the Steve Ford one but here's the ISBN number fort Bernie's book: SBN 10: 0008356556 ISBN 13: 9780008356552. I've no idea why there's two. Here's the book on Bernie's site: Where’s My Guitar?: An Inside Story of British Rock and Roll - Signed Edition | Bernie Marsden

I'm patiently awaiting the delivery of: Where's My Guitar? An Inside Story of British Rock and Roll by Bernie Marsden, which is, so I'm told highly recommended.
-
No, I don't think I'd part with it, but sadly you couldn't really use it for a pub gig and thinking about it, I probably couldn't afford the insurance premium😆
-
It seems Bernie is selling off some of his collection and there's some interesting guitars on offer. He's not selling his 59 "Beast" Les Paul though. https://issuu.com/gardinerhoulgate/docs/gardiner_houlgate_guitar_catalogue/64

Very nice🙂

Juliana, I suspect someone more knowledgeable than I will post a better estimate of what the value of the guitar is, but I think it's of an age where some would class it as a "vintage" instrument and as it ages the value will only appreciate. I hope someone with more understanding of values helps with this, but don't forget different country's markets have different values, it's supply and demand. The guitar certainly looks very nice! Good luck

Hello Buckfish, welcome to the forum. The choice between the 50's and 60's models are a very personal thing, the best thing you can do is to go and play a few. The 50's model has lower output pickups (like you'd find on 50's PAF's) and a chunkier neck. The 60's one has hotter, more modern sounding pickups and a slimmer neck. My personal choice would be the 50's, but it's not my guitar, it's yours.

Hello Juliana, and welcome to the forum. It's a little difficult to answer you question without seeing it, could you post pictures?
-
Very nice, enjoy it!

Congratulations RCT, Fenders Mexican products are really outstanding now.
-
So just to be clear, does this mean you won't be buying one?😀
-
Sorry to hear that but I guess you win some & you lose some.

Guitarist magazine in the UK have just done a review of Cream T pickups (the Billy Gibbons ones) and they were very favourable about them. Might be worth a look. https://www.creamtpickupsdirect.com/
