I wonder if people would buy it if it just had a number like Gibson ES-338 instead of a star 'endorsement'? (Just thinking out loud here.)

To me, putting a star's name or his/her instrument name on a guitar, doesn't increase its value. To others, it does.

Notes ♫

How is BB endorsing it. I think, no I know he has passed away. I foresee The Bill Nelson ES-345 Sunburst Finish (see what I did there its one of Be Bop's albums) Model. Of course its over 10k. Some will go Bill who?

I'm sure they have an agreement with his estate.

You know how Gibson necks are, my first Lucille had a big neck but this red one is a whopper, feels like it belongs on an acoustic (but the frets haven't fallen out and the binding hasn't gone SPROING!).

Most of the electronics are currently inoperative, though.  It's always something.

Rip the guts out an wire it without the useless V-tone POS switch.

A Lucille without a Tone Suck Device is a cheap imposter.  I might make fun of it but BB King really liked it, he said it was his "secret weapon" when he was interviewed about the guitar way back when.

I wish they hadn't gotten rid of the tuners with the flip out speed winder handles, they were great.  The brass nut was an interesting feature, too.

For all the ragging on the Norlin era guitars, my 1980 Lucille was perfect, the quality of workmanship was better than this red one which I think was built in 2006, maybe 2003?  The serial number is really faint under the paint on this one.

Yeah but no one will know your V-tone is not operational. You can even fiddle with the knob like its doing something. Those things keep chiropractors in business.

I was thinking about doing it but King Henry helped me make up my mind on what to do with it.

The worst is signed guitars. Sharpies and guitars do not match.

I got another mail from Gibson today, The ES-335 in 60's Cherry was featured.  Satin finish I believe but is it gorgeous. Well, to me it was. Now I'm thinking of pulling the plug on one? I would have to sell a couple to make room for it if I do, The Gretsch would be one.

I was just looking at my new mail today on this one.  Not a bad price really! I was wondering if I should pull out some cash from my 401K?  They keep bugging me all the time saying I need to take some out.

I need to check it out a bit more, What pickups come with it? Will it sound about the same as my Casino? I have 2 semi hollow guitars now and the hollow body Casino.

  • Neck Pickup: Calibrated T-Type, Rhythm
  • Bridge Pickup: Calibrated T-Type, Lead

As for the rest, there are people on here with way more experience with semi hollows than me.. Most people will tell you a good 335 does it all... Which I would agree with if I liked big guitars and why I have the 336 which is perfect for me.

oh... so you already found it?! P90s seems unusual

Yes thats whats tempting me.. Its on reverb and I have been looking at it for over a month now. Its a made 2 measure guitar so was a custom order and as you say, P90s on a 336 is totally unusual. Whats not to like about that..

What's not to like?  P-90s that's what!  Just joking I know you guys love P-90s, they're just not my cup of tea.  I'd say go for it Rabs, they're so hard to find that I'm sure you could always sell it down the road and not lose money.

As for the new BB King model I'm sort of with White Fang in that it should be a glossy black if they're emulating what BB played.  The finish on the new model looks sort of strange in the photos, I'd have to see one in person to really judge, but the $7K price tag would keep me away regardless.

Probably the price, but it looks sweet.

Its going for £2845 which while obviously still expensive, is a pretty good price... Especially when you consider that its a custom order and so unusual.  Its my birthday in a few weeks.. I have said to myself, if its still available then, I will buy it for myself as a Bday gift.. So fate will decide..  To be honest I am pretty shocked it hasnt sold already.

The way guitars go these days if you really want it you better get your self an early B Day present. Isn't it a pain to get guitars to the UK.
