you may have served in the forces but on here you slander your home town, state, country and most of the people in it. really sarge you should sometimes say how good your country is, even I can say its a great country, not fault free but one of the better ones.

My country is great that’s why everyone wants to come here. I don’t hear many saying “I’ll bet Iran is a nice place to move to”. We got issues like every other place in the world. Every 4 years we get a new boob in the WH, or the same one for another 4.

What have you done for your country jvc to make it great?

Kid Rock, how about Kid Dumber Than A Bag Of Rocks. Did Sheryl Crow actually date that idiot, or was it a media scam?

I learned rioting is an effective way of releasing my pent up and deeply harbored emotions, causes throwing bricks is easy, but using my words is hard and I don’t know any other way to express myself.

Not too sure on that one.  All I know is I absolutely detest "his" music - if we can call it that.  Take that song that has put holes in my eardrums All Summer Long...  The song is a combination of Werewolves of London + Sweet Home Alabama with a guitar solo that is not in the right key and has an iPhone ringtone keyboard part in it with an intro that is recycled Nirvana Smells Like Teen Spirit's drum intro.  I could only imagine how that one came together in the studio.  That says enough to me...  Aside from all his antics and personal stories, I don't follow it much - the "music" he puts out is enough to just make me wonder WTF.  The one where he recycled Metallica's Sad But True riff just makes me cringe.  I've had friends and fam that seen him and they say it's a good time.  I cannot conceivably see myself having a good time there unless there are some serious drugs involved - and earplugs.

I defend NY's right to express himself, I only wish he would do likewise.

What I learned is that some people who consider themselves enlightened, those I once respected because they fought for free speech at a time when the establishment really did censure it, are  now in favor of censorship.

True free speech means everyone gets to exercise that right. Sure, NY has a right to disagree with others, but he has no right to demand those who he disagree with to be muzzled.

Yep on all that. That is the reason he gets under my skin, and annoys me so. He's not a rock star, he just identifies as a rock star.

This happens all the time with celebrities,  athletes,  actors, comedians,  and politicians. They eventually become experts and  authorities on all matters.

It's our fault for empowering them.

I believe that free speech is a right.  So I believe in your right to exercise that right and say what you believe must be said.  I will also defend your right to free speech.  Unfortunately we are living in a time where everything we say is being weighed, scrutinized and judged by a "woke" mentality.  In that I mean everything falls into the realm of social justice and therefor everything is suspect. It not only creates an environment of intolerance but a total lack of reasonable discourse to argue a point.  There is no more discussion that can be reasonably presented because of the intolerant mindset which inevitably leads to a call of censorship and cancelation.  In many of the woke's minds, it's easier to call for silence from opposing ideas, thoughts and reasoning.  Calling for cancelation and silence of those who disagree with you is just wrong. Discourse and tolerance fall by the wayside as woke, social justice advocates scream, yell and shout down dissenting ideas under the umbrella of popularism, progressivism, wokeism, socialism, and authoritarianism.  Free speech is ultimately silenced.

I don’t care about NY. If I had any beef with him it would be with his music. Not my generation though. I had beef with Kid Rocks music and have for years for no other reason than I hate it for what it is. I expressed that feeling. I don’t live under a rock so I know he’s political, dates these women, blah blah. Don’t care. His music sucks that’s where I drew the like with him. Do I want him censored or dead or something… hell no! Let him be the bada$$ he claims to be lol! He’s probably cooler than me.

Sarge has a lot to say about NY and it’s funny. Had me thinking about someone I like to blast - but for different reasons obviously. Two different guys right there. But no I’m impassioned when I say how much I hate KR’s crappy music that pollutes the radio waves. Yes I listen to radio… a lot lol! At least it’s FM.

I feel ya though on the free speech stuff. Wasn’t really going there about anything but yeah, I’m with you. Live and let live I say. I have paid no attention to what Neil does. He’s irrelevant to my life but I am learning more about him just by virtue of being here. He sounds like a ******y dude. I know he’s part of CSN&Y, songwriter… good for him. Do I listen to him, no. I like metal and hard rock kind of stuff if I had to pick a genre to die by. Maybe NY will tell me that’s bad or something then I’ll have a bone to pick.

Sheryl Crow doesn’t have an impressive track record when it comes to relationships.  She was briefly engaged to Lance Armstrong, who needs no introduction.  He owns a home here in the People’s Republic of Austin and a ranch in the Hill Country not far from here.  He is about as popular as a turd in a swimming pool hereabouts these days.

I guess I'm  just an old fool.  My way of thinking goes something like this;

If I don't like an artist I won't  pay any attention to them.  I couldn't name one Kid Rock hit, same with Snoop Dog or for that matter any rap artist, or for that matter any opera singer, not my cup of tea.

Maybe I'm the poorer for it, I don't care.  I plenty of stuff to listen too, life is too short to worry about such things,

Free Speech ?    Yeah - like a  "Free Lunch".    No Such Thing.  Nothing is free.  Ukraine is finding that out now.     As we let the small but vocal "Woke Progressives"  shout down our concerns for their attacks on our values -  we also give up free speech.    We remove our bumper stickers in fear our employer will fire us.    The First Amendment -   wasn't  "Free" to the Founding Fathers.  Most who signed the Declaration of Independence suffered because they did.

Universities in the previous century bent over backwards to encourage 'free speech'.   Students For a Democratic Society, etc.   Now those who protested to support Free Speech back then  are in charge and are trying to shut it down by labelling it  'Hate Speech'  etc.   So, they were for it, before they were against it.

I guess another thing I learned in the past 3 years  is that HYPOCRISY  enables all other types of nefarious, egregious behavior.

I learned fifteen years ago that there's a constant stream of people on here claiming how misguided and ignorant everybody else is.

I had a coffee cup back in the 80s with the cliche'd guidance    "Don't Let The Turkeys Get You Down."    I think it came out around the same time Al Gore invented the Internet.    On here,  complaints similar to yours were brought up back then as well and  that Turkey Cliche was distilled  down simply to "If you don't like someone's comment, don't read it."   I don't know if it was tongue in cheek or if  it was stolen from Yogi Berra.    Sort of hard to know if you don't like sushi until you try it,  and you sure can't unsee that photo of a topless Milk Jugged Putin once you see it.    I guess, since you can't get those offensive forum members banned - all you can do is block them.  Or just skip over any comments you see written by those on your list.

Gotta remember that free speech, like all other freedoms, comes with responsibilities. You know, like the thing about not shouting "fire!" in a crowded theater.  Some might call it "free speech" to go around saying things like, "I hate all them ni**ers and think we gotta kill all of 'em."  Without giving consideration to the possibility that many might agree and use that statement as catalyst to actually try and accomplish it.

It's one thing to assert a point of view or state an opinion on an individual.  It's another to make generalized provocative disparaging remarks that might lead to the marginalization of entire groups of people or ethnicities that would be unwarranted or in some cases endangering.

As for the other stuff;  I don't much care for Neil Young's music(except for a couple of tunes) and might agree with some of his political views, but not with what he sees as any "solution".

I never cared for Kid Rock's music or politics so I don't bother listening to either.

I really didn't always see eye to eye politically with Frank Zappa and thought him often an over opinionated  self important jerk, but always loved his musicality, so I ignored that which I didn't like.

And so, in the words usually attributed to Voltaire, but was actually a summary by English writer Evelyn Hall of Voltaire's principles;

"I wholly disapprove of what you say , but will defend to the death your right to say it."

'might'  is the operative word, obviously.   Some people actually believe the flutter of a butterflies wings can create a domino effect causing a hurricane.   They would then call to ban butterflies.

I usually hate cover tunes, and this is a great example of the reason why.  I guess this gem is a double, or as the kids say a Mash-Up, of Zevon and Skynyrd? WTF??
