Too Old to "Rock & Roll?"

I did this on the Epiphone forum, and thought I'd ask

it here, as well...see if the answers are any different.

WHEN is it time to "hang it up," playing "Rock & Roll,"

(Whatever your definition of that is), and move on to

something else (jazz, Blues, tap-dancing...;>)).

30, 40, 50, 60...Never? Seriously.....(or at least

semi-seriously).

Should be some interesting responses...

never...ever ever....ever....ever...ever...ever...

because that means that there is a definitive time to just accept fate and lay down and die...no thanks...

if you like blues...play it...jazz...the same thing...if you wanna bust out your Les Paul Jr. and play some Lonely is the Night...why not???

rock out with your socks out...even if you have a colostomy bag...just do what you love

I recall Grace Slick saying nobody over 40 has any business on a rock and roll stage. I don't really agree, but the Stones are painful to watch these days. (wasn't this topic posted a while back?)

Well, so far...Epi forum answers have been thoughtful, a kind of "when it stops being fun, or "relative" to YOU,

then maybe you should "move on," and/or change genre's. No one there (yet) has suggested giving up

playing, per se, unless it's one's own personal decision, and seems to be the right one (at the time, anyway).

And, they are a pretty diverse (age) group, over there, as well. Several of us are members of, and enjoy, both forums!

In fact, I think the only (real) complaint about "Gibson" has been the ever escalting prices! And, we do that here, too. LOL!

Thanks, for your responses, and keep 'em coming!

Yeah, I remember someone posting her quote...but I can't remember what it was in response to? Maybe

a discussion about The Stones? Not sure... Sorry, if this is "old hat," or a rehash. I miss things, sometimes,

that have been discussed, already. ;>b

There is no Too Old. The whole Too Old For Rock and Roll thing was

started by People who grew up without Rock and Roll and they were

Bitterly Hoping everyone would start listening to their favorite kind of music.

Since when has 4/4 time been for just for Kids.

Since when has Driving the Down Beat or accenting the

Back Beat been a Pass Time of the Young?

It's time to stop Playing the Music You Love

when you Physically No Longer Can.

I think you should just keep on truckin' as long as you can & want! Keep in mind though, as Slayer's bassist/singer Tom Araya said, "I don't think anybody wants to see a 50 year old man headbanging up on stage." IMO though...keep it going as long as you can! :-

Hey GuitarSlinger... Could you please fix your post? Make that longggggg never ever ever ever...etc into several sentences instead of one long one....

BTW... Never ever ever....

Hmmm, I thought that's what I did. Oh well ...

.

Too old and Rock and Roll in the same sentence is just a sillyness.....

.....maybe when I am dead and gone, and cold in the ground or ashes in the wind,

maybe then I'll ease up on the heavier stuff a little and do a tad more blues.

Wasn't it KISS that said "If it's too loud, you're too old" Well, it's still not too loud for me. :)

I love to see the older guys still playing. The only thing I say is that sometimes the artist might want to adjust their look and style a little bit as they age so they look more dignified and less silly.
