Who REALLY plays Epiphone?

I mean, you here the stories about Jimmy Page owning

a few and the Beatles were happy users, but what about

Nowadays? I saw Nancy Wilson on the VH1 Heart special

playing one on Misty Mountain Hop. And I know Nick from

The Strokes has his model and plays them.

I love mine so i'll play it!!

Werent epi more higher quality years back when the beatles had them? I mean there wasnt much between a gibson and epi back then. (Well thats what the epi story says in the 2008 catolouge that ive got.) They were still being built in the U.S then werent they? (Could be wrong on that front.)

Would i be right to say there quality is not what it use to be but is still good (Prob the best chinese built guitars EE i mean)

Please tell me if im really wrong about everything ive said.

Who cares? Use your own judgement' date=' if you like them, play them.

Who cares who cares? Obviously to mozahlee, this is an interesting question, so I'll take the question in the spirit in which it was asked, and try to make my response to it positive and respectful.

Paul Weller obviously uses epiphone (see epiphone's home page for a photo of him with a Casino, and a link to some video of him performing, I think). I only tend to notice the hollow bodies when I see video of people peform, so it's only in a situation where I'm at a gig in which I'd notice if the Les Paul somebody is using is, in fact, an epi copy or something.

Anybody else know of any other well known epi users?

I'm with the guys who say "me." I don't copy others' playing styles, and I am totally apathetic about what Joe Tattoo is playing with the top radio band.

I spent yesterday with my Sheraton II, Seymour Duncan pickups and a Fender Jazzmaster Ultralight, and that's all that matters.

I completely agree! Who cares if it works for you thats all that matters. Don't do it because joe blow posed for a picture with an Epi guitar like so many of the endorsers do.

Matthew followill, lead guitarist of Kings of Leon, plays a late 80`s Samick made Sheraton as his main guitar(almost exclusively). The Edge from U2 also uses a late 80`s Samick Sheraton as well, from time to time.Paul weller as mentioned uses a 66 Casino.Billy Jenkins uses an early 80`s Matsumoku made Casino as does Luther Dickinson of North Mississippi Allstars,(and in Billy Jenkins case almost exclusively).Neil Diamond has and uses his own signature acoustic, and Richard Ashcroft of the Verve has been using an Epiphone J200 this year.Bernard Butler uses a Black 60`s Casino. There are plenty out there.

another good question would be how many budding bands play Epi's and how many over time got started on Epi until Gibson handed them a free set of Gibson's for fun.....I'd switch over.....

I guess the same goes for movie stars, hand me a free car or high end watch and the company gets marketing support and the rest of us begin racking up credit card charges......

I know a few bands here and there and most of them can't afford the higher end stuff, but its certainly their goal.....

Hell, who buys a Ford Mustang without mulling over the additional cost of a Mustang GT.....we would all have the GT if we could.

Good question... A lot of musicians that play live and don't have disposable income will like epiphones since that if they get a headstock break, have it stolen, or have it crushed will feel better if it's a $300 instrument versus a $2500 instrument. That is one less stress you will have as a live performer.

Well to be honest...thats a list of endorsers most of whom posed with Epiphones

Well yeah, that's the only reason i asked...Because You never know who REALLY uses

them. I Don't REALLY care, because i love Epiphones. I ask also, because it'd

be nice to maybe see some vids and hear them in action, On Stage, rather than

some kid in his bedroom giving a review of one.

Well, I (as a lot of others did) bought my first "Epi" ('66 Casino) at age 17, because John, Paul, and George all had one.

That was enough reason, then..."If they're good enough, for The Beatles, they're good enough, for me," kind of thing.

Well..."That was then, this is now"...and I still love that Casino! The nice thing now, too...is that anyone that plays it, wants it...

or at least one like it! My "Assembled in USA" Sheraton is as good a guitar as anyone could want/hope for, in a Thin line

Semi-acoustic 335 Type. I have a Gibson "Lucille" that is to "Die for," but the Sheri is just as good a guitar...IMHO! So,

I'm no "Rock Star," but I love my Epi's, as much as any guitar I own!

You know, I don't remember all their names.

but after I got my sheraton, 15 years ago.. I started noticing epis on the tube.

letterman leno conan and more since..

bands showed up to gig on big time teevee and were often playing rivieras and casinos.. often one guy would be playing a paul or a

335.. and another an epi.

Seems to me if you're going on national television live you'd want your fave guitar if it was there.

and since the other guys all seem to have what they liked, I take it for granted that these guys like their epis just fine.

we look for sameness.. for confirmation.. and we look not just because of some human weakness, but because it's fun.

I can remember the first sheraton I ever saw.. around 66.. potters music in mason city iowa..

and it was a wow complete to everyone I talked with about it.. and not cheap, either.

they had a reputation in earlier days that equalled anyones.. big endorsements. good sales.. great models..

I think they have some of that back, and I think they can go farther and will, intercompany rivalry notwithstanding.

I just saw what looked like a Texan in a preview of some goofy looking comedy coming out soon in theaters.
