Canucks24
Hello All I just got delivery of my brand new Les Paul 60's tribute. I opened and unpacked it from the gibson box and while inspecting the guitar I found something concerning. That is if its not supposed to be that way. There is a substantial mark / dent on the upper edge/side of the guitar about even with the bridge area. Photos should be below. These guitars are said to be lightly reliced. Is this relicing or was the guitar damaged? I have never seen one before so if you are familiar with these guitars, or better yet are from Gibson Please give feedback. The mark appears to be man made and looks to have been done after the initial staining, but Im just not sure. I need to decide if this is a return situation, or a love it because it is unique and supposed to look like that situation. Thanks Jason http://s1234.photobucket.com/albums/ff415/pitter69/?action=view¤t=P3210191.jpg http://s1234.photobucket.com/albums/ff415/pitter69/?action=view¤t=P3210179.jpg http://s1234.photobucket.com/albums/ff415/pitter69/?action=view¤t=P3210180.jpg http://s1234.photobucket.com/albums/ff415/pitter69/?action=view¤t=P3210187.jpg http://s1234.photobucket.com/albums/ff415/pitter69/?action=view¤t=P3210197.jpg

If it is relicing you obviously don't like it or you wouldn't be posting. I don't like it either. Return it!
LarryUK
I'd say it was impact damage.
BigKahune
. Almost looks like it was hit with a sanding wheel there. Pretty good bump anyway. Relic'ed? . . . Maybe.
WahKeen
That's awful. If it was mine, I'd return it. That's no relic detail.
Andy R
My vote is dent! With relicing as an excuse to let it slide...

Lungimsam
Bummer, man. I can understand your disappointment. Call Gibson customer service with the serial number and ask them if it was meant to be that way. If you aren't convinced, or don't like it, then return it from whence it came. FirstMeasure
If that's a Les Paul Studio '60s Tribute it's just supposed to be a little "worn" not "reliced". The finish looks a little faded and more "satiny", but there shouldn't be anything that looks like damage. And yours is damaged in a spot that wouldn't typically be reliced, like the upper bout where the forearm rests, pick sweep area, back of the neck, fretboard, maybe the back of the body. Unless they were going for the "Improperly Stored" look, that's not relicing.
Canucks24
Go figure, called to get a return number from the online site I bought from, only to learn that they were out of stock and would not be getting any more gold tops. They would exchange or let me return it, but end result is I get no gold top LP. Not a fan of any of the other ones so I guess I got what I got. They gave me some cash back to make up for it. Guess that is the beauty of limited runs. Waited 2 months for this one, and no more left. I started playing the guitar and it sounds and feels AMAZING!!, so I can look past the ding. Cest la vie. I don't buy guitars to re sell, so as long as I enjoy it that's all that matters. Thanks for the feedback. Jason

Jason Jason, if it bugs you, and I can certainly understand how it would...take it to a qualified luthier. He/She can fix that "dent," reasonably easily, and inexpensive. I had one much worse, in one of my old (vintage) Les Pauls, and by the time I got it back, it was like it was never there. I think he used water, to swell the wood back up, lightly sanded it, and (spot) reapplied and buffed out the finish. It was well worth the expense, at the time. Won't hurt to at least check on that possibility. Cheers, CB
LarryUK
I agree with Charlie. Use the money they've given you back to have it repaired or contact Gibson directly about it. They should change it.
jnastynebr
I wouldn't worry too much about it. If it were mine, I wouldn't. If that git gets the play time it deserves, it will have more than a few dents in no time. If you got some cash back, I say problem solved. Put the $ toward your next guitar/amp/gear purchase. TommyK
"relic'd" in my mind is imparting a fake road wear look. This looks like someone accidentally kissed the belt sander with it. Can this be claimed as a 'relic'd' wear? I dunno. I'd say no. Return it. or get a price adjustment.
