  1. True. Common knowledge.. Thought that was a given... Although, the OP's question wasn't Why? But, in the framework of this question & trying to point out the differences be tween SG' & LP's it could help the OP. It doesn't take a Rocket Scientist to see the conceptual designs of SG's & Teles following similar ideas... Even their Price points have been similar... I gotta believe Gibson was going after Tele Buyers... The simplistic design of one could easily lead to the appeal of the other.... Although, the SG is much lighter as a rule... The LP is a completely different Guitar...
  2. I had a vintage 50's Jr. One of the Guitars I should've kept... Bought it for $75 in a Pawn Shop years ago... One of the best sounding Guitars I've ever played... SG's are simple in design.. They are less costly to build due to using less Materials & more basic Construction methods. Gibsons version of a fixed Neck Tele if you will.. I believe it was originally the plan to compete with Tele's. Both LP's & SG's have xlnt Examples of each.. That said, I wouldn't say all are great Guitars... Mostly due to Pickups... There are at least a 100 different variations of Pickups over the years.. Most, IMO, aren't great... USA P90's tend to be quite good Sounding & extremely versatile.. HB's are all over the place... Some original PAF Humbuckers being the best of any Pickup... Although, very rare & very expensive.. The recent MHS Humbuckers are quite good.. As are some others.. Very subjective...
  3. I've had 50 year old Gibsons with original Tuners & no Tuning issues... I agree that it's likely something other than the Tuners.. Strings, Nut, Graphite, Intonation, etc. Correct everything else first... Then Tuners as a last resort...
  4. It depends on what Band I'm playing with, what Genre's, Covers, or Originals,.. Depends what Guitars are called for & what Amps I'm using.. I try not to use many if any Pedals.. I really like getting the Sound from the Guitar's, the Tube Amp's & me as much as possible.. The Pedals I have on my Board are Janglebox, Boss Tuner, TS808, Fender 64 Reverb, Boss Digital Delay & Keeley Double Tracker... That's it. Isle them sparingly....
  5. The SJ200 is considered the King of Guitars.. There are lots of good Guitars. Like Gibson J45's & Martin D28's.. Many others as well. But, IMO, the only other Guitar that comes close to an SJ200 is a Martin D45... Both are the Top of the Line Guitars... Anything less is, well, less... The Boy Friend will be over the Moon with an SJ200!
  6. Low for regular playing. Higher for Slide.. All my Guitars are adjusted to slightly different heights so I can't give exact numbers...
  7. That's like asking the difference between Apples & Oranges... Both are Fruit but each are different... Even LP's are different.. Pickups, Electrical components, Weight a Relief, Etc.. Same with SG's... So many different equipped Models of each.. The question becomes which LP or which SG? Both are excellent Guitars.. You really need to play some to know what's right for you... Hard to do right now with the Pandemic.. You could Order from a reputable online Dealer that has a 45 day Return Exchange Policy.. If you don't like the first one try another... Once, I had to go thru 3 of the same model Guitars to get the one that was perfect for me.....
  8. I got mixed up on your previous Post. I thought you got a perfect replacement... The negative Thread about guys who send back their less than perfect Guitars threw me off.. Good! Glad your new one is working out for you... About that Post. IMO, anyone who spends perfect Money for a high end Guitar & expects it to be perfect is not out of line. It should be Perfect. To not seek remedy is beyond me.... I paid for perfect, I expect & want perfect.... That's what Warranties, Return & Exchange Policies are for.... Not trying to start an argument but just stating as valid a Point as that Poster..
  9. If the new replacement Guitar has a twist in the Neck? It might be time to tell Gibson you want a refund & buy something else..
  10. Disregard Wmachine, he obviously hasn't read this Thread & doesn't know what he's talking about with regard to your experience. If there are defects, poor, broken Parts & blatant QC Issues you have every Right to make Use of the Warranty & seek Remedy... Good for you... I've owned & own several Gibson Guitars over the years. 2-3 times there were Issues that required me to use the Warranty.. Gibson has always done right by me... I'm glad it worked out for you... That is a beautiful Guitar... Play the heck out of it! LL
  11. NGD's are alway great! Enjoy your new Guitar.. Martin Retro Monel Lights work great for Acoustic Electric on J Body Gibsons... They sound great unplugged & don't lose their Sonic qualities when plugged in.. Unlike most Acoustic Strings which sound great unplugged but lose volume & their Sonic quality when plugged in..
  12. Your comparing Apples to Oranges... Of course they sound different... Love all my Gibsons & love all my Fenders... Listen to what Hendrix & Clapton did with Strat's if you think they lack depth, tone etc...
  13. I've heard those are pretty cool! I have one of the early G-5120's that's pretty nice... I recently got the George Harrison Duo Jet. Beautiful Guitar! I love the Dyna Sonic Pickups!
  14. My Sales Rep said, June or July.. Here it is August... I'm starting to lose interest... I already have some great Casinos.. Just wanted a USA... I can wait until they're readily available or a nice Used one... Meanwhile, I'm thinking about another Gretsch.... A G-6120EC Eddie Cochran, G-6122 GH-VS George Harrison or a G-6136-59 LTV White Falcon... They're all available...
  15. I know I need to sell off several of my Guitars, some Amps & whole lot of Misc. Gear... My Wife says I've become a Hoarder.. But, I just can't seem to be able to pull that a trigger... How did you do it?
  16. Congrats! Enjoy... I have one & love their Sound & enjoy playing it...
  17. 3 Pickups seems to have worked pretty Good for Frampton! Who's to say? There ain't no right or wrong when it comes to Music.. Just Good & Bad.
  18. Guys who have them like them. They were short lived though. Vox was trying to do Gibsons & I think people want Vox to be Vox.. They had some cool Guitar designs back in the 60's. But, suffered from quality issues.. They tried a reissue Brian Jones Teardrop but it too was short lived...
  19. A great memory for him & wife would be to buy his Dream Guitar & play it til the end... When he's gone it will be an extension of him for wife & family with fond memories....
  20. I see you're a Heavy Line Mechanic! Very Nice!
  21. Samick builds Guitars for just about every Company.. If recall they were, and may still be, the biggest Manufacturer of Guitars in the world.
  22. Casino's were duds? When was that? The cheap Asian kinda is.. But mainly because of the horrible Asian Pickups! Easily remedied though.. All the others have been Limited Editions & all Sold Out easily. The '65's, Elites. Elitist's, IBJL's, 60th Anniv. & Gary Clark Jr. Blak n Blu are outstanding versatile Guitars.. In the Used Market many are Selling for equal or higher Prices than they were New... The Pandemic has definitely altered everything. A USA Casino & a USA ES335 would be the perfect complimenting pair of Electric Archtops.... I hope they are still planning to build them....
  23. I usually stand & wear Strap. I've played standing for years. I'm a Lead Vocalist as well. Standing usually yields a better performance.. At least for me... Cords are always an annoyance!
  24. I've got a 50's style Tele that I put a P90 at the Neck & Bigsby on...
