  1. Last time I saw King Gizzard they had a reverse V and a Holy Explorer
  2. No that’s a white guitar which has yellowed It seems not unlikely that TV yellow was Gibson’s answer to a certain Fender product that was released first. Maybe it would be better to ask Leo if they chose that finish for TV or if it was just a popular way to finish an open grain wood I love TV yellow but wow Gibson was doing such an ugly job of it on the Gibson USA stuff in recent years. Good riddance to that finish hope they can bring it back right
  3. I feel like you misinterpreted my post. Of course on a figured maple Epi 335 you are looking at veneer. Epi openly claims this on their own website. there is no reason to suggest Epi are moving away from veneers. On their LPs with figured tops, it’s a maple veneer over a maple cap. On their version of the SG standard, it’s a Sapelle or similar veneer over a mystery wood. On the SG you referenced, it is sold at a lower price point than the standard version. Part of the way the lower price point was achieved was by forgoing the Sapelle veneer and just showing the mystery wood when I describe the aspects of Epiphone which are not as nice as Gibson try not to get defensive. I’m not insulting Epiphone, I’m describing things in a realistic way such as to not be misleading
  4. If you are familiar with both there are a lot of differences which may or may not be important to you. With Epi the finish is a different material which looks and feels different than Gibson. Michmac lives in a tropical environment and he prefers the Epi finish because it is more resilient to his environment Epi has had a tendency to cheap out on electronics in the past, although they’re getting better about it now. With Gibson you know you’re getting CTS pots and Switchcraft etc. On a 335 type that’s more of a big deal because it isn’t easy to swap the electronics The Epiphone hardware is generally inferior especially regarding gold plating. Gold plating on Gibson hardware will last much much longer than Epi Epi will tend to use cheaper woods and more veneers etc. This isn’t to say the cheaper wood is bad or anything and of course I understand that with a 335 it’s made out of thin layers of laminated wood anyways. Point is the raw materials of an Epi are less expensive and Epi employs some trickery to maintain that lower price point. this one is more subjective but I’ve played a whole lot of Epis where the neck is sortof a rectangular plank with a roundover on it. Very flat on the back, obtrusive “shoulders”, and just generally not a very inspiring or impressive piece of work. I certainly don’t love the neck on every Gibson I pick up, but Gibson necks are much more to my liking than Epiphone generally speaking. You might pick up an Epiphone and love the neck. I have played ones that I liked. Just saying in general Epi tends to go for a bit of a flat backed D shaped neck profile which is not my favorite All things considered Epiphone makes some great guitars and Gibson occasionally makes some not so great guitars. In general the Gibson is a nicer guitar but the Epiphone is so much cheaper the diminishing returns won’t be worth the price difference for many players Personally if I were looking at buying an Epiphone semi hollow I would get an Ibanez Artcore instead.
  5. Most DIYers use 63/37 or 60/40 solder which flows easily but does not meet ROHS compliance. Factories use lead free solder which does not flow or look the same the soldering here looks great but it’s probably one of the least impressive parts of this build. A monkey could make a good solder joint. What sets this build apart is the neat hand wiring, quality components, and thoughtful modifications/tuning
  6. The thing is ugly for sure but I have to admit it sounds promising. They mentioned that the neck is more narrow than a regular PRS neck which may fix their main problem of shitty wide D shaped necks. Might actually be an incredible guitar but I’m not the guy to pay for it. Gimme a good Les Paul or Tele and I’ve never been disappointed with versatility or modern whatever. It’s just a good instrument which is whatever you make of it ive always personally felt that PRS kinda solves a nonexistent problem. They take a perfect guitar and make the neck wider and the pickups brighter or something
  7. The custom shop VOS guitars are regular gloss finishes which aren’t buffed. The faded stuff doesn’t have pore filler and uses a satin nitro. The faded stuff will develop shiny spots but will never be polished to a regular gloss finish
  8. Man this thread is not helping my GAS for an LP Custom. I’m even getting all worked up over that case with the orange lining
  9. I can’t wait to see lots of pics of this. And if you’re selling it for 3x what you paid I’d be interested in it at that price
  10. Wow incredible find! Hope it works out, that thing looks like it’s in great condition
  11. That is a really cool looking guitar. Love the split parallelograms and press in tuner bushings
  12. Deep in the heart of Nazareth. I’ve been liking the acoustic work on Peso Pluma’s music lately for a change. Lots of really nice techniques that you don’t really get in American music
  13. Ibanez make excellent guitars but for you I’d probably go with a Dean ML Acoustic
  14. Honestly I think this is a hideous concept/design. It solves zero problems while offering nothing new in a format which is compromised and overpriced by nature. I gleaned all this from not watching a second of the video so take that with a grain of salt I guess
  15. The 58 reissues are excellent guitars but beware that they usually come with a huge neck. Personally I’m not a fan of the huge neck but I’ve seen some made with the “Carmelita” neck profile which is what I’d personally be looking for if I was buying an R8
  16. Probably a R8 aka 1958 Les Paul Standard Reissue There are lots of them with figured tops but usually they’re supposed to look plain like this one The finish looks like “iced tea” check out another example here https://reverb.com/p/gibson-custom-shop-58-les-paul-standard-reissue-2019-present?hfid=69117431&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=6556462740&utm_content=campaignid=6556462740_adgroupid=82353538201_productpartitionid=339306557662=merchantid=105572763_productid=69117431_keyword=_device=m_adposition=_matchtype=_creative=391635704566&gbraid=0AAAAADRxZYUbn_moC987lxSlRUAbhg2Kd&gclid=Cj0KCQjwmtGjBhDhARIsAEqfDEckDE1mFjqLDcWOHwgLIr4mJPZkqgREjtvlU9hSrzuQQwfS0eri2jEaAszcEALw_wcB
  17. My dad used to have an old .38 special he got from his uncle. His uncle was a bus driver in Chicago in the 40s-50s and used that pistol to shoot two separate people while he was driving the bus. Believe it or not sometimes some unsavory people use the bus and attack the driver. Bus drivers often feel they are in a vulnerable position and will sometimes carry a weapon for protection. I think it’s dangerous to blame gun violence on movies or videogames. As a 2A advocate, think about how uneducated people sound when they blame mass shootings on a certain rifle. You don’t need to do the opposite just stick to the facts
  18. Nailed it. Most of these kids playing Mario Kart these days don’t even have a driver’s license or seatbelt on the couch. It’s a sign of the end times
  19. Good thing is there’s no deadline or reason to worry or rush at all. Nothing wrong with taking your time as needed. A custom style LP is a complicated project when you don’t have a fully set up factory. There are so many jigs and things to be made
  20. Pro tip: if you don’t want the guys guys using your restroom in your house, rent a porta potty. You don’t want a bunch of workers at your house with nowhere to relieve themselves. You probably don’t want a bunch of random guys walking through your house
  21. Probably a 2017 Les Paul Tribute HP
