Volksball
Hey folks, Looking for some input on the best polish for my 2014 Hunmingbird. Cherryburst. Quilt maple sides and back. . She sounds great and I want to keep her looking just as good. Right now I'm using a microfiber cloth and my breath. Seems inefficient. Thanks. 62burst
There was some discussion on this recently here on the forum, have a look:
IanHenry
Microfiber cloth can be harsh on a polished surface just use a cotton one. Gibson Pump Polish a couple of times a year will do the trick, it also adds a little lacquer to the surface.

zombywoof
I also keep Viirtuoso on hand and Fret Doctor for the board. But most of the time I simply use cheesecloth slightly dampened with distilled water.

It cleans and shines it up very nice, but makes it super slippery to the point you have to beware if you're playing sitting down. It also puts a coat of something on a surface you want to be free to vibrate as best as possible. Although probably indistinguishable, just cleaning it how ZW mentions makes most sense to me. kidblast
I find all I need is some warm water and a soft cloth too. There's also this stuff called "Smudge Off" which is pretty light and water based. Works on everything and leaves nothing behind. That said, to get arm haze off or sweat residue, like what you'd get after having an out door gig in July, Virtuoso is pretty good. But also, nothing works quite as well on our beloved Gibsons as a bottle of good old Gibson Pump Polish.
Leonard McCoy
Gibson's official tips on lacquer care and maintenance are still worth a look (link).
Jinder
I love Gibson Pump Polish. Treated myself to a bottle of the stuff when window shopping in Denmark street back around 12yrs ago and haven't looked back. The best guitar cleaner and polish I've ever come across, bar none. Murph
I tune them every time. Never polish. Maybe once...

Twang Gang
I use Virtuoso on all my guitars. Cleaner first (if really sweaty, grimey) then the polish to finish it off. Softest cotton cloth you can find. Safe for nitro finishes.
