mihcmac
I have been reading about this redesigned Epiphone SG Classic P90, the body is two pieces of mahogany with no veneer, a 60's SlimTaper neck, the 50's Headstock, cast Kluson style Epiphone Deluxe tuners with Threaded Bushings and Ivory Buttons, P90 Pro's, full size CTS pots no circuit board, ABR Bridge and Stopbar. Anyway I couldn't resist for $379 with free shipping from the MusicZoo. I am adjusting the trussrod a little and intonation. I may have to install a Les Trem II. A longer neck trunnion with the strap button moved much farther forward now, like current Gibson SG's and much improved Neck Dive. Epiphone finally fixed it on a few SG models. Big Bill
Congratulations!!! 👍 I'm also a proud owner of one of these! I swapped out pups with some Fralin's and the electronics with Emerson's. I really love this guitar. I love the Inspired by Gibson line, I also purchase the 12 String Hummingbird and I am just amazed on how well built it is.
kelly campbell
Good looking guitar. Congrats and enjoy!
mihcmac
I do like the P90 Pro's as I have 3 other guitars with them and my amps are tweaked for that range. I have a few other types of P90's including Epiphone P90 Classics which are a bit gnarlier on solid bodies, they usually come on a few MIC and MIK Casino's. My other Epi SG's feel a little different, the new ones balance is much better. I really enjoy playing the SG Classic and the way it sounds on my equipment, its going to be one of my favorites. I enjoying mine too! Day three I'm digging it, I like to adjust the P90 poles to match the string radius but I haven't peeled any of the plastic yet. Yesterday I buffed the neck with aa mild abrasive and the fret ends a little. I'm amazed at how well built it is, quite an improvement from the previous G400. Keep enjoying yours Bill, the way they are constructed they will be around for a long time. My SG Classic has full sized Pots made in Korea at Jin Sung, they feel good, the soldering looks well done and with Orange Drop capacitors. The 2020 Wilshire and 339 I bought have CTS, Epiphone lists them in the specs. Edited August 26, 2021 by mihcmac
mihcmac
Last night I peeled the P90's and adjusted the poles to the string radius. The pickguard mounted floating P90 design with screws at each end, is actually kind of nice for easy adjustment, like the Gibson LP Special Tribute DC below. Hmm Inverness or maybe call it Sherwood Green, I could be Robin Hood again.. The nut seems to not bind, I might have to do a Duesenberg.. In comparing the SG Classic to my G400 and found that unplugged the Classic seems to be considerably louder. Aside from many differences in construction, the Classic body may resonate better because it is made from two pieces of mahogany and the G400 is three blocks of mahogany with a thin mahogany veneer on the top and back. In addition I noticed that my Wilshire is two pieces of mahogany and is also louder unplugged than my G400. mihcmac
Well balanced, not much dive, stays imposition even with a seatbelt strap and installed the Duesenberg Les Trem II ... I think the setup is pretty much done now, sounds and plays really good to me. Still have to peel the pickguard... A little slice of heaven. I spent some time on the Hilo side whenever I could, and Beth and I relaxed upon Kilauea Military Camp quite a few times. (I was Active Army and she was a Government Servant.) Beautiful country there, I love it! PS I asked the question, by the way, because you were wearing a long sleeve t-shirt in that earlier photo. I said to myself, "It has to be cool where he is, and that means 5,000 or 6,000 feet or higher on the Big Island.😃

Dub-T-123
I like the direction Epiphone is headed in here. This looks very comparable to a Gibson in terms of features Those aren’t orange drop caps nor do those look like CTS pots btw

Corrected. https://www.epiphone.com/Guitar/EPI9YL50/SG-Classic-Worn-P-90s/Worn-Cherry You you are correct, they are generic, the full sized pots are made in Korea at Jin Sung and the caps are basic 047 uf. The 2020 Wilshire and 339 I bought have CTS, as Epiphone lists them in the specs. My enthusiasm is driven for the Epiphone SG Classic being the lowest priced electric in Epiphones line up that has a set neck design giving it improved balance with 2 P90's an ABR bridge with cast tuners (Kluson Style) including solid mahogany (no veneer) and finally the return of the 50's headstock. 🤪 👍 Explore Epiphone P-90 Guitars.......................... jdgm
I think you need orange drop caps and CTS pots on ALL your guitars now. Think about it. It wouldn't cost that much. 😈🎸 Edited August 30, 2021 by jdgm
