SparrowHawk89
Have inherited this gibson les paul custom serial no 02005608 and have no idea if this is genuine or not. Any information would be appreciated,
SteveFord
The plastic parts don't look right and I don't see any nibs? Did rct take these pictures? I know they made some Customs without an ebony fret board. What's it like in the control cavity?
jdgm
From the 3 pics above, I think it is not a geniune Gibson. Edited October 17, 2021 by jdgm
zigzag
I'm no expert by any means but the truss rod cover and nut don't look stock and there are no nibs on fret ends. And this is totally subjective, but the neck looks wide at the nut, and the finish looks too glossy, plastic, and clear for NC. Hope I'm wrong. Better pics might be more helpful. jdgm
Pics are a bit small to tell.... But I still don't think it's genuine, just from the pic of the headstock, the trc and the way the number has been put on.

sparquelito
SparrowHawk89, The great thing is, you inherited it. You didn't buy it. Take your time, and contact Gibson Guitars Customer Support, and ask them what sort of guitar belongs to that seemingly 2005 Gibson Nashville serial number. https://www.gibson.com/Support/Customer-Service Good luck. 🙂
NighthawkChris
That is not a Gibson product.
rct
It appears to be my kind of fotography. And I put machines on about that straight too. So yeah, FAKE!!!!!! rct
kidblast
your pictures are too small to see any detail, you need to host them somewhere, like a facebook account, for example. but it looks dodgy even with those to check authenticity, take off the truss rod cover, if it needs an allen wrench to adjust the neck relief, it's not authentic USA gibson will not have an Allen Wrench fitting there Edited October 18, 2021 by kidblast
Larsongs
I’ve never seen a Gibson Serial number printed like that?
NighthawkChris
God, even the fake burst on that thing is hideous.
BigKahune
Pics are too small, but the bridge posts look like they have screw driver slots which would mean it’s not genuine. Others reasons have been pointed out in previous comments.

sparquelito
I just now noticed the square shape of the fingerboard inlays. Can't say as I have ever seen any quite that shape on a genuine Gibson. Trapezoid, yes. Dots yes also. None at all, in the case of certain models. But not straight up square. 😗

Customs usually have the split diamond inlay on the headstock. Here's my ES-359 Custom - square inlays - definitely genuine.

It's an unconventional look. Sort of like Geddy's Signature Bass, I reckon. 🤨
Twang Gang
My Custom 356 has the square fingerboard inlays too, and pretty much like this fake LP we're discussing, they aren't centered accurately between the frets, and not always parallel to the frets either 🙂 My L-5 from Custom shop also had square inlays - although a little more accurately placed. mihcmac
Not any rectangular inlays on my P90 guitars, just a few trapezoids... 🙂 Although the Custom level seems to like them... Edited October 21, 2021 by mihcmac
