Band Names: Not many left?

Recommended Posts

What are your band names ideas?

I thought of several band names in the past and discovered they are already used.

Yesterday I thought of more. Three of these are already taken:  Sloper / Wet Leg / Dirty Kitchen.

If my song collection (think album) is ever finished, I was going to use the name Unwise Bill and the Squawking Gentlemen. That's safe, so far...

We have to pick one this fall...

Not sure we'll use our actual names anyway.

Being "offensive" is SO the noughties, but... **** do I know.

You could go the CSN+Y rout.

Porn Stunt Double is a good one.

Fluffer - another porn job is good to.

There's a hamlet in eastern Pennsylvania called Skinners Eddy. I always thought that would be a good band name.

Two fictitious band names I like are The B-Sharps from "The Simpsons"  and The Loaded Diaper from "Diary of a Wimpy Kid".

The B Sharps is damn funny. The prison warden in the Netflix show Orange Is The New Black was in a band on the show called Sideboob. That's funny too.

The band I was in way back changed names once to twice a month.  I've mentioned this before.  I'll try to recollect some....

Magic Lamp( well, it was the '60's)

Skidmark

Post Natal Drip

Electric Heat( from a sign on a mobile display of electric home heating options by the Detroit Edison Co.)

Tempus Fugit( from the other guitarist's grandfather clock)

Ethereal Deal

Head Cheese

Trojan Horses

12th Street Riot Band (12th street in Detroit was the epicenter of Detroit's  riot of '67.  The street name has since been changed to Rosa Parks Blvd.)

That's all for now

Whitefang

In my opinion stick with Unwise Bill and the Squawking Gentlemen but divide it in half and be either Unwise Bill or Squawking Gentlemen. Shorter and easier to type into an online purchase site :-)

My first Band was "Shaft". Several years befor ethe movie came out.. Should we have sued them? LOL!!!

Then there was,  Break Of Day, The Lake Bottom Blues Band, Riz & The Rats, The Larson Brothers Band, The Fab-Tones, The Glenn Michael Rogers Band, Analog Sky, The Phantom Teardrops, The Redondos & several others I'm forgetting...

If you think you have an original name for a Band look on Youtube.. Chances are somebody already has it.... Good luck finding something really Cool & Original..

My brother's band was called Detroit Locker. Their first gig that was advertised, the club owner mistakenly listed them as Detroit Cockocks.

On a slightly different note. 35 years later, my brother started a business. He was torn between a bicycle shop and selling musical instruments. So, I told him to make it a combination bicycles and musical instruments and he can call it The Minstrel Cycle.

In all seriousness, I would name the band differently depending on if you're planning to be a bar/cover band or an originals band trying to achieve actual success. If I was trying to actually be a full time band and make a living, I probably wouldn't pick some cutesy, flippant, or play-on-words name.

Does a band name really matter? The Beatles were named after a bug, but spelled with an A.
