Looks like Zakk is at a standstill for the first time.

Looks like Zakk Wylde is at a standstill for the first time in over 20 years.

How do I know this?

I was hanging out at Wal-Mart (long story) and killing some time.

Grabbed a couple gun magazines and the latest issue of Guitar World.

Skynyrd, Kiss, Zakk Wylde on the cover....

Paid for 'em then went to the in-store McDonald's for a lunch of Chicken Selects and a Coke.

As I hung out people-watching and eating my chow, I was flipping through the magazine and saw a quick story on Zakk that included a few statements about his health concerns (blood clots nearly killed him) and how it derailed his touring.

However, the asumption that his health knocked him out of the Ozzy slot is wrong.

Zakk says that two weeks before a Ozzy gig at the BlizzCon video game convention in Anaheim on August 22, he found out he had been replaced by Firewind guitarist Gus G.

Seems Ozzy thought everything Zakk played sounded like Black Label Society....

It was days after that when he had the whole blood clot thing take him down after a BLS show in Omaha, NE.

He got his doctor's OK to play a Halloween show in New York to introduce his new guitar, but has no future plans right now regarding Ozzy or BLS.

The new guitar?

Check this out.

WTF?

C'mon Zakk, don't be a second-rate has-been sellout so soon....

Well, I hate to say that Gibson is doing it right though...

I mean, a killer Gibson-made version of this would cost $7,000 dollars.

Kids can't afford that, and few people willing to spend that on a guitar would buy THAT thing...

So, let's go down-market where anything that looks 'cool' will sell to the kids and metal heads.

Gibson can sell 100 times as many guitars and make more profit a little at a time.

That's why I'm saying - look at how much the Zakk-signature Gibsons cost.

But having a Gibson signature requires a certain credibility (forget Kiefer Sutherland).

While an Epi signature is, well, who cares?

Yeah...

I tell you what, even if I was Keifer Sutherland....

Or Gibson decided to do a NeoConMan signature Les Paul, once I had my name on a Gibson it wouldn't be going on ANYTHING made by Epiphone unless it came out of the Custom Shop in Tennessee.

Why stoop in the market?

Is the money so important that you would forfeit any credibility in the eyes of your biggest fans?

Wonder how all the people feel after spending automobile money on a guitar only to find out their hero is also peddling garage sale/flea market/Wal-Mart guitars with the very same name on them?

Those Coffin Epi's are going to be like a grand too. I don't think that Zakk is discrediting himself by letting Epiphone put out models with his name on it. If that's the case, than hasn't Ace Frehley, Slash, and Gary Rossington also discredited themselves by letting Epiphone release signature models with their name on it.

Agreed. Apart from the Kiefer model everyone that's been given signature treatment' date=' or about to receive signature treatment, has [b']definitely[/b] deserved it.

What I want to know, is why in the world you were hanging out at Wal-Mart...

People watching!

:-/

My neighbor has had a hellish two weeks, both his cars broke down.

They've needed rides into town for various errands - including buying another used car.

Well, the new/used car overheated and broke down on him....

So, he was given a shopping list and told what to get from the store, and to ask me for a ride.

Turns out Mrs. Neo was already at Wal Mart for groceries, so I met her there for a few minutes until she checked out and went home.

Okay, I ain't escorting my neighbor around while he fills his shopping order.

Grabbed a couple magazines and went to the McDonald's so I would be easy to find when he was done.

Beats the hell outta going to a shopping mall!

Zakk has enough money' date=' one thing is to have Epiphone guitars with your name on it and another having a novelty guitar with your name on it.

Coincidentally I was listening to the Pride & Glory CD yesterday, good stuff.[/quote']

I would love more where this came from with Zakk. The Pride and Glory stufff and his playing on No rest For The Wicked, with Ozzy are my personal favourites.

I don't think it will hurt Zakk to sober up and reflect for a year or two. He's been Ozzy's side man too long anyway, they both need fresh directions. Zakk needs to explore his Blues/Rock roots and Ozzy needs a fresh younger Metal sound.

As for the Silly Epi he's got his name on.......like I said, it wouldn't hurt to sober up a little.

As for having a Signature guitar that's affordable, That's Great! He just realizes his audience is made up of mostly younger people into Metal, they are not the type to have several thousand to spend on a Guitar. Besides, I like Epiphones when they're built nice. Anything over $500 is a Darn Nice instrument.

If I had a signature guitar, i'd take the same route Jimmy Vaughan too with his Signature Stratocaster. He had it Made in Mexico, fitted with Tex-Mex PU's, One Piece Maple Neck, and 4 of the most popular finishes so folks who wanted a Really Built Strat, but couldn't afford the American Deluxe or Custom Shop stuff. Then he put his signature on the BACK of the instrument, so it wouldn't take away from the Classic look of the Fender Logo. That's the sort of thing I'd do, and not for Sales, but for the Working Musician and Living Room Warriors.
