surfpup
I figured this deserved its own thread. I'm no giant devotee of the Who, but I can tell you seeing them live is a powerful experience. I'd also suggest that if you don't "get" The Who you must get Live at Leeds (the new expanded verison is great - twice as many songs). If you've listened thoroughly to Live at Leeds and still don't "get" The Who, so be it, but I think that album, sonically at least, captures their live impact pretty well. DanvillRob
Can't forget "Tommy" The FIRST "Rock Opera"!! When I saw it (early 70's?) I was blown away! I did at least one show with The Who, but damned if I recall it! (darn those 60's!)

Twiz
I'll check that video out. I got into The Who way later than I should have. A couple years ago I got to see an exhibition about the band at the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame museum. It was pretty amazing. They even had some of Pete's SG's that weren't broken! grampa
"Live At Leeds" could be used to define and demonstrate what Rock is. And of course Moonie is THE face of R & R.

stevef
Entwistle tune from "A Quick One".. Got to see them a couple of times with K. Moon (one at small outdoor venue show 1971 for Who's Next-- great seats near the stage).. Once after K. Moon died, Kenny Jones from Small Faces on drums.. Named a cat named Boris because of this song.. [/YOUTUBE]
Super24
I've always liked the Who. However, when I saw them in the late 80's I don't remember being overly impressed.
albertjohn
Great to see some love here for one of my favourite bands. They are simply outstanding live, even at 60+. Do yourself a favour and go and see them if you get a chance.

Rocky4
I liked the late 60s era Who. There was an odd mix of ferocity and cheesiness. Townshend is one of the greatest writers in rock. The Mick
Do you think "Wicked Uncle Ernie" was based on himself? Yes absolutely from what I remember of his statement years back he never said he was gay just that he had had and experience when he was young. Everyone took that as he said he was gay. The internet child porn was never prosecuted and he claimed it as research. My thoughts have always been that he was molested as a kid. He was raised by his Grandmother and other family so........................

Hall
Saw them twice in the old old days. Fantastic. Live near Cincy, but later years when they announced the festival seating policy for a Floyd show and my feet didn't touch the ground for 100 yds at one opened door, I passed on The Who the next month. We all know what happened. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Happy Jack" Steve
hellion102792
I wish I was born 40 years ago, listening to Live at Leeds/Woodstock bootleg/any other live show by them makes me want to see the original band even more. Shame that alcohol and drugs had to snuff Moonie and Entwhistle, but rather they go out while they could still do their thing than watch them get old and fall apart I guess. Townshend is on my list of all time favorite guitarists/songwriters, the reason I started using thick strings and heavy picks were because I read about the kinds he used back in the day. I would kill to get me a time machine...
