HNGD!!!

Well ... I already talked about selling that Les Paul Blackback within a couple of hours of taking it out of the carton ... but that wasn't the ONLY guitar that sold the same say it arrived at the store. This one sold to ME:

Yep ... it's a Nighthawk in the "fireburst" finish. It was only the second Nighthawk to show up at the store (the first was in the trans-black finish)and I got to pull it out of the carton with my very own hands (sort of like delivering a baby ... plus I got a poster, bumper-sticker and crappy line cord to boot!) As soon as I saw it I ran ... RAN, mind you to the nearest amp and plugged her in ... and that was all it took!

Man ... this is a fun little guitar. It has actually made me laugh a couple of times ... such a small guitar being as much of a tone monster as it is. It's sort of a tough guitar to describe: it has all the spank of a Telecaster, but with a big fat a$$ on the bass end ... really unique and a ton of fun to play! It feels like it weighs next to nothing and I'm sure I look like a gorilla holding a ukulele when I play it ... but I'm really happy and astonished with this thing!

I like the way they continued the burst on the reverse side:

I gave it a pretty good going over at the store before making the buying decision. Intonation was a bit sour and the action had to be let down just a little bit, but if there is anything else wrong with it, I haven't found it. Fit and finish are spot on. I just hope I don't have any of the switch issues that one of our fellow forum-ites had.

All I know is that I loved the look of these Nighthawks from the day they were introduced. I'm very pleased that Epiphone delivered on their promise. Is it the end-all/ be-all of guitars? Nah, it ain't no Les Paul ... but this is one fun, versatile ... different guitar and I am very happy to own one!

What a STUNNER, just a plain, out and out, beautiful guitar mate, with the choices you have available to you, when you choose something it must be very special indeed, HNGD to you Jim.

Only one criticism, you didn't have Danielle model it for you, LOL.

I like to see "personal" reviews of the gits EPI makes. At first I did not really care

for the NightHawk, just didn't jump out at me. NOW, after seeing feedback about it over the

last few months, MAYBE? Worth having a look!!!!!

Hmmmm...If I remember correctly, in you original BlackBack thread, you said

Danielle was $799 and came with a HardShell Case???????? [thumbup]

Tell her we all say "Howdy".........

My 50th is coming closer - so is the black Nighthawk.......... B)

My 50th isn't coming any soon... No Nighthawk for me?

AND, love the 'hawk, Jim. Loved it from the moment news first appeared about it, unfortunately it was half a year late to make it into the shops... :) (I hope my "Miss Lizzy" LP doesn't get to read this  )

HNGD Jim !

Great looking guitar.

If you have some time, maybe you could record a demo of the various tones you can produce.

Hope it brings you many hours of enjoyment. [thumbup]

Thanks so much for all of the good wishes, gentleman! It makes it all that much more fun sharing this stuff with all of you!

I had the day off today, so I changed the strings and re-intonated it again (why I didn't take those rejects from a barb-wire factory off of it in the first place, I'll never know ... to anxious to play her, I guess.

That left me with a rather unusual question: this is a 25.5 scale guitar ... like a Fender. Usually, all of my Fenders get a set of Cleartone .09's on them. I assume, but was not able to confirm, that Epi put their normal set of .10's on the Nighthawk and they didn't feel "tight" at all the way they would on a Fender. I opted to put .10's on her, but I have a feeling I'll be experimenting with a set of .09's before too long!

Fun stuff ... she is one hot little number! The honeymoon is going strong with this one!

I played one at the local GC this weekend. I had thought the longer scale wouldn't be for me (I play an old Casino, ES-330, and ES-120, all with pretty short scales), but i was way wrong. The Nighthawk felt great. Couldn't go thru all the PU possibilities at the time, but clearly there were tons of them. Given the quality of this baby, the price is amazing. HNGD, man!

I wouldn't mind giving the Nighthawk a test run, I like the idea of having all those tonal options.

I almost bought a Gibby nighthawk years ago, but the strings felt so stiff and tight...my guess would be that it had 10's on the longer scale length. At the time i didn't even know different gauges were available other than 9s lol.

Thanks again, guys! Still getting aquainted with her and I think I might throw a set of .09's on here just to see what it feels like.

I love all of the "Anderton's" demo vids. The one's they did on the Fender Mustang amps pretty much nailed it for me when I was still trying to decide on buying mine ... great stuff. By the way, did Chappers suddenly go bald in the space of a few months???
