When Bernie Marsden forgot his passport and couldn't go with his band to Germany. In a bind, the band stole the 18 year old, unknown lead guitar player from their opening act.

At least that the greatest moment for me.

Oh... and while your watching this see if you can see where Steve Harris stole his entire act from. [laugh]

Well....It could be this

Because a lot of today's Rock Greats site Baby Let's Play House as thier inspiration to play the guitar. James Burton's bends and Rockified Country licks being the catalyst.

However, IMO, The Kinks had the Breakthrough Guitar Moment....

A historic moment indeed..............I mean the world's first stage dive at 3:14 (albeit unsuccessful due to the distinct lack of a mosh pit.)

^^^ I agree,

It is funny to see some people still doing the hippe thing while others are heading more in the NWOBM direction,

Great clip, admittedly I have never look into UFO's music much since it is a bit past my generation but I amy look into an anthology as I do know they have like 40 albums.

On the other i do not think their bass player started the whole stripe spandex and long hair, plus Harris was already around then.

Steve Harris formed Iron Maiden in 1975 at the age of 20 after seeing UFO live. He took everything Pete Way did and expanded on it. Including his galloping bass lines.

Don't take my word for it, Steve will tell you himself at about 5:15 or so here. [thumbup]

But I don't want to hog the topic.

Okay, this isn't as "sexy" a moment as some you guys have mentioned, but think about it:

It would be the first time(s) a guitar was recorded.

Suddenly certain parts of the musical spectrum were "different" from what one heard live. So, guitarists and guitar manufacturers realized that the new concepts in guitar construction of the past half century could be used to alter the sounds their acoustic instruments could lay down for the wax of a recording.

Later, that concept brought even more change in acoustic guitar tech to fit with the radical new idea of playing for radio and through a public address system. Wow...

By the time they had electronic amplification for bands and singers, folks started to take their, "how do I make my guitar do this" to its natural conclusion with the specific question of "how do I make an 'electric' guitar for amplification?"

But the whole thing started with that first effort to match the instrument to recording instead of just to enhance the acoustic presence and volume of guitars.
