The DIY thread

Nice job, Manse! The Japanese built Fenders are really nice aren't they? We have an MIJ Mustang Bass in my band that totally rips

And, of course, this thread is open to pics and discussion of any projects you want to post about! I suppose guitar related DIY is best, but whatever!

Thanks Dub,

my soldering skills are not equal to yours (yet msp_biggrin.gif). But this has given me appetite for "having a go".

ps - the fuzz you built me continues to be awsome. More brutal than my MXR Classic Fuzz, it gets an airing every time we play. (It is very cool for our stoner-rock cover of Hole In The Sky.)

And yes - frankly the MIJ Fender gear is something of a highpoint for '80s Fender output!!

Hey Manse - I'm stoked that you're still enjoying that fuzz!

Here's something I just wired up in my testing box that you may like. It can get much fuzzier than this but I like this sound.

I do like the sound of that!! In fact, I like it just like it is, (it would be good for late era Manic Street Preachers sounds - which I am quite partial to.)

Got another day in the rehearsal studio tomorrow - so the Dub Fuzz will be getting another outing. We will see what it makes of the new quarterpounders in my strat. I am guessing it is going to be good!

Cheers,

Manse

That was a Harmonic Percolator clone. I guess the idea of the circuit is that it's supposed to cancel out unpleasant frequencies. The interesting thing is that it actually works pretty well I think. It can get some octave fuzz sounds but I think it makes a pretty nice overdrive

Have fun at your rehearsal! Let me know how it goes!

I've got my first gig with my MK1.5 Tonebender clone that I built and my ac30 tonight. I may have a video of it to post later

This is my favorite fuzz I've built in quite a while.

It's basically a Fulltone 69 circuit with MK1.5 Tonebender cap values and a 2G301 in Q1 and a 2G308 in Q2. So that is to say its basically a MK1.5 Tonebender circuit with a pregain control and a bias control for Q2..

I need to flip the battery leads around since I'm stuck in negative ground wiring mentality but dayum this is a sick fuzz. I'm in love

Very nice Dubs! I built a fulltone 69 clone as well awhile back. When you set the voltage bias for Q2, did you set the bias control at mid way? I noticed the bias control can change the voltage by almost 1v.

Here is a Christmas Present my son made for me. It took him quite a while to complete it - I just got it yesterday.

This is all laminated Cherry made from one 7' X 8" X 3/4" board. (This won't be going on stage!)

Thats an amazing looking stand, materials and handy work look top notch

Swapped the original JWT Gibson pickup for a Duncan Distortion. This Duncan sound killer.

Replaced the killswitch for a No-Load 500K tone pot, the killswitch was fun for a couple of weeks and as expected the novelty wore off quickly. I can use a tone pot a lot more and with the no-load feature the guitar retains the original design of not having a tone pot.

No load pot, 500K turn it up all the way and there is no resistance.

And then nothing...

The killswitch hole was huge so a piece of coiled wire will center the pot in the hole and keep it snug:

The "11" knobs I bought have too long a shaft, I have jig for that, a 1/2" bore bit that with a rounded of lead tip, masured desired depth with a caliper and used a sharpie marker to re-color the acrylic. (next time I have black spray pain out i will spray the back)

The result is knobs that sit nice and tight to the body.

Final result, the tone pot works great but I did notice there is a bit of noise now, it may be that the ground that is connected first to the voilume pot instead of the tone pot, no biggie.
