  1. Use of the word 'stolen' is archaic - pure colonialism. These works of art were liberated. By people who need to feed their families. Greedy corporations will get re-imbursed by fat cat insurance companies. All Is Well... All is well.... all is .. well..
  2. I'd double check on the guy that 'tested positive' to make sure it was not: A False Positive, OR, The Regular Flu. If you know the guy, email him to find out if he has symptoms, why he got tested. It's two weeks of your life - you need/deserve to know. "trust but verify" !?
  3. That nose ring and chain on the tea strainer glasses will add a touch of class.
  4. Music, even in a different language, is still the universal language. Beautiful.
  5. We're trying to figure out what we'll do about our normal 20 person family Christmas gathering. We have 4 kids, married with children. All different circumstances as far as Lockdowns. Wonder if they'll ban New Year's Eve On Times Square in the Big Apple.
  6. I've re-read the OP's first post and comments and have reached the conclusion, that contrary to his claim, he did come here specifically to slam Gibson. Whether his guitar is a legitimate example or not - he has accumulated over a dozen direct, harsh criticisms of Gibson. And even the redline case! He claimed he had the dealer inspect other Gibson's and they all had glue marks all over. Yet no one here has had that issue. I'm inclined to think there is something off in the original claim, especially being his first post.
  7. To answer your question ... I am not at all as well informed as the previous commenters, but the center strip is there for a reason. Just like the pick guard. You can assess the risk of removing your pick guard - but I believe the center strip is functional - not cosmetic in nature. And, now, my question. Again, I know next to nothing about repairing let alone restoring a 75 year old guitar. But, my question: What is the cause and reason for what appears to be cutting the sides down the middle? I had always heard that repairs entailed removing the actual back piece itself. First the binding, then the kerfing .....
  8. If your employer provides you with an investment in HIS company as a form of a retirement benefit - you should diversify. You already have invested in his company by working there.
  9. Tom, every time you post regarding your collection and equally impressive voluminous work over the decades in helping to define this era of acoustic guitars - I get knocked off my feet again. That H'Bird looks like it should be in a museum. Hope you got some background on it's early years - 'provenance'. You and your wife are to be commended for this. And, I understand your aside re. 'bonding' with your LG1. I had a '64 for 40 years. My only guitar ... in my 'formative years'. You be we bonded. Gave it to my son. Breking Up Is Hard To Do ! Thank You ! .
  10. Only place in our largish city you can try before you buy a didgeridoo.
  11. I think you have to be brought up as a child in an environment like that. We have a tv show about a half dozen families who have individual homesteads in Northern Alaska on Federal land. It is pitch black and below zero for 4 months of the year. Not much better except for 2 months of summer. I’m sure it is much more livable in The Hebrides. But not even a beautiful mermaid such as she could ever get me into that water!
  12. Isn't feeding a puppy turkey after he bites you sort of ... positively re-enforcing a negative? Unless, you yelled at him, and waited 5 minutes! Wife may have had too much mask and not enough oxygen. If you live in a state that requires you to wear a mask In Between Bites - she may have been doubly affected. Chewing and swallowing without breathing, then a mask. Hope she's OK. Today we're getting one of those side by side remote control beds that you can raise and lower, but are 2 twins that fit (I hope) inside an existing King size bed frame. Yesterday, the mattresses were delivered and are airing out. Our current mattress is like a well-worn catchers mitt. I think they intentionally make them now so they don't last as long.
  13. OK, I'll bite. I've been using coconut oil for 5 or 6 years on my 3 Gibsons. About once every year +. Tried it out on cutting boards and wooden coasters before venturing onto my guitars. Started using it because I found "Lemon Oil" is a petroleum distillate and that seemed .... well, not 'natural' like lemons. Of the not-petro-based oils, coconut is said to be the only one that doesn't go 'bad' (rancid) over time. And, based on several reports - is the #1 choice chefs use for their cutting board. I don't know anything about Almond Oil. But I love Almond Joy.
  14. To paraphrase ... "It will make her look and feel better."
  15. Not many companies nowadays would replace an expensive item after 13 years, in spite of their claims of a "Lifetime Warranty". Some guy in QC in Memphis had a bad day and let one slide - but their management stepped up and over compensated. Methinks most companies would have just re-fretted it for you. I wonder if Guitar Center STILL has a policy of not rejecting obvious defects from Gibson? I wonder if they extend this flawed thinking to Martin ? If I were Gibson, I'd insist they do their job and help keep defective guitars with their name on it - out of the hands of customers who like them. If I were me, I'd not buy from GC knowing they pass marginal goods on to customers. And, yes, I've bought a few hi-end things with string from them in the past few years.
  16. Zombie Thread - BUT .... To dispel the "Student Guitar Myth" .... I bought an LG1 new in 1964. Had it for 40+ years before giving to my son. I paid $125 for it. The minimum wage at the time was $1.25. I know, because that was the source of my funding! Roughly 100 hours of work at the local Mom & Pop grocery store. My previous/first guitar bought a couple of years earlier was $25. THAT was the definition of a 'student guitar' back then. Today, the minimum wage is $7.25. 100 hours will not get you a new Gibson anymore. Gibson is higher priced/valued - because now, unlike in the 60s - there was not a plethora of Chinese guitars available. Flash forward to today. Is a Gibson G-45 Studio at $1,000 - a 'Student Guitar" because it is at the bottom end of their price ranges? Not when you can buy a brand new Epiphone for 1/4 of that. Some 'students' in our local high schools have brand new Cameras. Better cars than many of their teachers. Does that make the Camaro a 'Student Car' ? In the mid-60s, when even indulgent parents would not shell out 4x the cost of an instrument hoping their kid would take to music - I doubt there were any struggling with Mel Bay #1 who had a Gibson.
  17. Well, the good news is - the same people who facilitate the massive fires and impede the re-building will soon be deciding if Californians can get the FDA approved CoronaVirus vaccines.
  18. They start at $60K. I had a '75. Used. Same color. Didn't call it 'Red Mist' back then. it was "Traffic Ticket Red".
  19. Each of the three should have gotten "Four Roses". A bottle of blended bourbon would have kept all 3 happy.
  20. Actually, when I want a more subdued sound - I take my SJ-200 Maple down off the wall and leave the H'Bird TV and J-45 Koa up there for another day. It has a deeper, broader sound comes out of the sound hole and hangs there in front where I can see it - doesn't try to reach out to the squirrel in the backyard.
  21. I"m not a fan of cut-a-ways... Especially florentine. I can't get a mirror and flashlight and camera in their to inspect for glue drops.
  22. Nothing compares to a NGD. Congrats. Makes it even better when it's a 'find' like this one. Purdy. Hats off to all those guys out there who buy brand-spanking-new, high end acoustics and decide they don't like them after a couple of three strums - so we can scarf them up.
  23. Valuable info - Thanks. RW - sounds perfectly balanced in that Super Jumbo body! Thanks MP !
  24. Wowsers! I bet she sounds as good as she looks!,
