I dunno if outsourcing is really the right word? Licensing seems more accurate since it’s not being sold as Gibson

Agreed -- The video says they will be  marked as Gibson which is incorrect.  These are basically high-end, high-quality Les Paul, Explorer, etc. copies that are licensed.  They will have Gibson-shape headstocks that will say Echopark (not Gibson) on them.

This got a lot of discussion on 'another' forum. With Echopark earning plenty of demerits from unhappy customers.

So perhaps Echopark will work in a similar way as Orville in Japan?

One good way to make money is to have someone else do it for you.

Although, the name is terrible.  They should change that.

Echo Park is an area of LA where they’re from if that makes any more sense

Yeah, that's what I thought.  It sounds like a neighborhood, not a guitar company.

I've seen a couple other mentions of a few other's that are "partners".

My question is, is this whole thing a result of the whole "play original" and threats/lawsuits of the brands that copy Gibson shapes?  Does this just boil down to "we will take a fee and then allow you to use our shapes"???

It looks like it.

Just after the release of the near-universally condemned vid-clip where Watsisname kicked-off on his threatening little rant the new CEO of Gibson hastily released a second clip in order to try to quell the uproar which duly followed-on from the first. He mentioned, pointedly, that Gibson would be exploring other paths and licensing other Gibson-approved companies in 'Partnerships' whereby they would be allowed to manufacture Gibson-designed products was one such path.

Like RCT said, these new money guys are trying to lay claim some kind of added "value" in every corner of their imaginations at Gibson, making up new columns to add the stuff up, 'cause that's they way they roll.  If they find some extra dust under a cabinet, they call it an asset, make a column for it, and say "Look  how much more the Company's worth now that we took over!"  There's value in having people copycat your products.  Not to them, but to the Gibson brand.

How about inventing some flat pickup rings, lol?
