Concerning my 1980 LPC

I had to blow off my senior prom in highschool with my girl[biggrin]

I remember the girl I asked (Madeline' date=' girlfriend at the time), then having to tell her I spent the $1200 I had saved for the prom on a new LPC[biggrin'] ...... Man was she pissed[blink] ..... She broke up with me, and made sure everyone at school knew what I had done.[biggrin] .. I felt bad for about two days afterwards, but then another girl asked me to the prom and paid for my tux, the tickets.... and she drove[cool] ..... women's lib at its best[biggrin]

That is the best thing I have read in a long time. $1200 is not very much for an LPC. That's a hell of a lot to spend on prom though.

In 1981 it was a bit to spend on a LPC.... well according to some.

The girl was planning on a limo, and I was going to buy her dress, shoes, dinner and her hair and makeup..... Basically pay for every detail.... she was high maintenance, but she was damn pretty.

Duane...

I have a hunch you had a better time overall with the girl you went with regardless.

When I was a senior in HS, we voted against a prom as too expensive. <grin> All boys school, not many of us had a regular girlfriend anyway.

I remember taking a really hot chick to my prom in 1980 (Helene was her name). I paid for everything and discovered what a ***** she was during the evening. I ended up leaving her at an after party about 25 miles from her place and drove her brother home.

Never talked to me again. What a blessing.

On the selling part, I remember selling a no name Les Paul copy for 50 bucks around 1977 to buy something else. I can't remember exactly what it was but I think it went up in smoke.

Got a good summer job and bought a wonderful MIJ copy (part of my signature). Still have it and play it once in a while but ultimately, it doesn't hold a candle to my Gibsons. I'll never sell it though.

Never sold anything to buy a guitar. Just worked with what I had until I could justify buying a new one. First Gibson bought last fall. I'm 48 now. My wife told me I had waited long enough. Paid for school, equestrian training...now its our turn to play.

As for the girl I went with to the prom, it was just a right of passage deal. Never really spoke to her before or after the prom. I went to the prom because all my pals were going, and there was going to be a live band.... with very little out of pocket expense[cool]

As for Madeline, I didnt care whether I had a good time with her or not, she was hot and a great kisser[biggrin] ... But I wasn't sexually active in high school, so I never developed an emotional attachment to the girls I dated..... There was only for one girl that stole my heart during my schooling years, and that was Becky, (my girlfriend from 5th grade to 8th.[biggrin]

I traded my status as a "One Guitar Guy". I played one Guitar, my white 88 Strat, for the the first 15 or so years of playing. I Bragged and Bragged about only needing one guitar and loving it. Then I needed a back up because my 88 needed too much work, so I went looking for the Gibson I'd never had. Figuring I'd try for a used LP or a new Masterbilt or Elite Epi, but I came across this beautiful Cherry Nighthawk on Ebay that I stole for 460 bucks.

That started a Buying Trend that lasted for a few years, Now I have a hard time taking less than 4 guitars with me to a Gig. That Gibby changed a lot.

Nothing sold - my wife and I years ago set up both a vacation/travel and a guitar savings account at the bank - On the first of every month $500 is transferred into those accounts. if I want to buy something in the music line I use that account. If I sell guitars or equipment that money also goes back into the account. So in years like the last few where I sell allot more than I buy that account can get pretty large. Last year I sold 14 guitars to one wealthy lawyer who wanted an instant collection that spanned 25 years so the account was definitely well funded, enough so that when my wife wanted a new car I paid for her Mercedes out of that account.

Thankfully, I didn't give anything up for my first Gibson. It was a Gibson SG Special, which is relatively cheap for a Gibson, but I have sold/traded other guitars to get where I am today. Not because I needed to (well, sometimes) but mainly because I knew I likely wouldn't play those guitars anymore. I've sold/traded some great guitars but no real regrets. The only one I somewhat regret trading was the R6 but I do intend on getting more LPs; so, I'm sure it won't really be missed. [biggrin]

Say what you want about the Melody Maker, but over the past few weeks mine has been doing exactly what I want while the other three can't. I've just recorded guitars for three songs with very aggressive guitar sounds, and it did what I wanted.

Next week when I start a more mellow song, the Casino will do the job nicely.
