The Best Epiphone?

JayP

Recommended Posts

This is just for fun - hopefully! [biggrin]

But also because, as a new owner of my first Epiphone and being very happy about it, I'm already thinking about the next one!

So...! If you can, which is the best of all Epiphones for you? And why?

My reply is easy - as it's completely biased [crying] I only played/own one Epiphone!

So to me it has to be mine, the Epiphone Dot Studio, Wine Red Burst.

Headstock and neck are awsome in its simplicity - while "quoting" the gorgeous Benedetto archtops, I think.

This guitar has charisma - and at the same time I feel that many people wouldn't look twice at it ... but I gotta say that every friend on mine who saw it went... "wow, that's beautiful!".

The action came great out of the box.

The sound, while not being 100% aimed at jazz, my thing, (far from that, actually) seems versatile enough to address lots of musical styles.

Ok, this was just for the kick off [crying]

Your thoughts?

JayP

PS: Absolutely no intention of starting a war of arguments, here!

best...thats tough. SO many to choose from. Depends on my mood. My favorite, that i don't own, is the Casino/John Lennon. Hollow, 2 P90's, just sweet!

But some days, I just love my modded Epiphone Strat....

But my favorite will be (at least for the time being) the JR I'm modding.

As for best...... not sure. Favorite is easier.... or not....

Tartanbeastie,

Didn't know about the Del Rey. Thanks! A bit on the PRS type, right?

Peter,

Looks great, and that one of course I knew already! Congrats on the nice guitar you have, then :)

Thanks, guys!

Thanks, Custom... modding seems to be an important theme here, I'll have to check that!

Any photos of the one you're working on?

Cosmitron,

Awsome that Coronet! What kind of finish is that?! Was it hand-painted or what? :) Love it in any case.

(and great playing BTW, I'm listening to your "Wilshire Boulevard" :)

I'll get some tomorrow. I bought one of those $89 Jrs. Brought it home, played it for 5 minutes, and took it apart. Leveled, crowned and polished the frets. Today I made a 2 piece mahogony body for it. Routed for a P90. Ordered a dog ear from guitar fetish. Tomorrow I grain fill. I'll try to remember to get a few pics and start a thread.

Futher mods will follow. I'll get it together, then go from there....

I am going to 2nd the vote for Casino's as being the best, if not the most iconic Epi made. I have heard it made some Rolling Stone list of top 25 guitars you have to play before you die. I plan to play mine right up to that point! :)

Well JayP, from my limited Epi experience to date, I would agree with you and say my new Epi Dot is the best Epiphone. I won't detail my many long years of experience with top name guitars (PRS, Gibson, Fender USA, et al) but just want to say I am very impressed with the Epi Dot. She's a humble Vintage Burst from Qingdao made late last year, but once I changed the wiring to the Gibson 50s layout (same as Sheraton 2 wiring I think), I am pleased. Briefly I can say the wood is good, the neck is great, the Grover Keys are rock solid, and the tuning is also rock solid.

I actually sold a PRS McCarty because it didn't sound all that good unplugged. I am a tone freak (attending rehab at present!!).

I made a few changes to the Epi Dot - Gotoh Bridge (kept the stopbar), new pots and changed wiring harness, did put a Gotoh (PAF) Neck pup in (keeping the Epi Hot57 Bridge pup), full guitar setup and the instrument plays like a dream. Action is brilliant.

A humble guitar is the Epi Dot, over shadowed by the Gibby 335, but very few punters in the audience can tell (hmmm, or actually care!) about the difference in sound.

All hail the Epiphone Dot!

Mmmmm can't make my mind up...

My Epi Les Paul Standard 1959 or my Epi Les Paul Custom?

Or perhaps an Epi Les Paul Classic Goldtop I played a few weeks ago?

I don't know.

Can't make my mind up on this...
