I don't know why disliking one group or another should be a problem. I don't happen to like the Supremes. Never have.

What's the difference between disliking one group or disliking a genre of music? As someone 61 years old, you might guess I never liked grunge or head banger stuff.

On the other hand, Richard Thompson did a cover of the Britney Spears tune, "Oops, I Did It Again." Check it out on YouTube. While I wouldn't pay attention to her version, (I didn't say I wouldn't nothing HER in her skin tight costume), I certainly thought Richard Thompson's version was a cool song and I got a huge kick out of finding out what it was.

Hey, I don't care what anyone else likes or dislikes. That's their privilege.

But, just don't start a thread, with "I hate (add group)," without stating why,

and putting out at least one group, you do like...so we can have a shot, at it!

LOL

This thread seems more like a "Watch me get these guys going," post, than one of

any real value.

I know I'll get flack about this. I hate the Beatles, I know they were such great musicians but I just can't help but turning off the radio when their on.

You mean when they're on? Couldn't resist. Woke up this morning and listened to Abbey Road. Genius.

I assume you've only heard what the radio plays? That's the problem. They have such a large body of work, you need to check out the lesser known stuff.

I saw the Revolver cover and I knew you would post either this song or "And Your Bird Can Sing".

My favorite off Revolver is "I'm Only Sleeping". I want to do a cover of that song but I don't know how to change it because it's already so perfect.

I don't know... Maybe I just didn't read the OP's thoughts that way. And nobody seems to have made a really big deal out of it, a compliment to the manners and diplomacy in the forum, unlike some others I've participated in. I mean... my reasons for liking or disliking something these days just comes down to me being a cranky, curmudgeonly old fart.

It's all about personal taste.

I dislike a lot of music that is made by excellent musicians. Often I cannot even know myself why it doesn't appeal to me. The song might be well crafted, the performance might be done professionally by talented musicians, and still it doesn't work for me.

Here is an example:

John Coltrane was a genius of a sax player. He changed music forever. His improvisations are analyzed to this day. Most sax players think of him as a "sax god". It's is almost sacrilegious to say you don't like his music. I can appreciate his genius, his performances are excellent, his improvisational choices are original and cerebral, but I don't like to listen to his music. I can't find anything wrong with it. His style just doesn't appeal to me.

There are plenty more examples.

On the other hand, there are artists who have bad intonation and mediocre chops that to me are a joy to hear.

I don't know the answer.

As far as the Beatles are concerned. I never appreciated their very early stuff. To me it paled in comparison to the R&B/Soul music that I liked. Listen to "Money", "Twist And Shout" or "You Really Got A Hold On Me" by Barrett Strong, The Isley Brothers or The Miracles and I'll take the original any day.

The song "Help" was the first Beatles song that tickled my ears. Rubber Soul was the first album that I really got into. Some of their later stuff is still among my favorites to listen to (The Abbey Road Medley, parts of Magical Mystery Tour and Sgt. Pepper are wonderful).

I have no problem with anybody saying they don't like the Beatles. I will argue with someone who says they music they made was bad.

The "early" Beatles music was terrific! Especially, if you were in the age demographic, it was aimed toward. The originals, were catchy, great melodies, harmonies, and decent instrumental approaches. With their "covers," they brought American R&B BACK to America. At least "White America!" In the urban areas, you could listen to "R&B," and Blues. In rural America (save maybe the "South") that was a lot

harder to do. There was some black "Pop R&B" music, on the radio then, but not so much the blues versions. Most of white America, were listening to Bobby Darin, Pat Boone, Fabian, Jimmy Dean, etc.

The Beatles, made all those "Black" songs they covered..."Whiter," especially being White and English, to boot...and therefore more acceptable, to "White America." I don't think anyone would argue that their's were "better," than the originals...least of all, them. But, they (along with the rest of the "British Invasion") did bring us back into our real roots Rock & Roll/R&B. So, I love the early stuff, as much as

the latter, not only for those wonderful "pop" songs, but for what they maanged to do, for a 14 year old

white kid, from rural America. They got me "movin'," and yearning to make that kind of "noise," too!

I think Notes and charlie nailed it. The Beatles invaded the US almost 50 years ago. Even if you don't like them, you've got to appreciate their musicianship, their historical significance, and their impact on rock'n'roll and other forms of modern music. Plus, their songs provided fodder as points of departure for lots of more modern artists.

George Harrison was my inspiration to learn guitar. And btw, my early roots were R&B (Sam Cooke, Sam & Dave, The Delphonics, etc.), but I don't like them nearly as much now as then.

And just because I feel like it, Queen sucks!

You just had to do that however I really like how your Casino sounds...

LOL!! [laugh].... Sorry about that...

Trust me, my love for the Beatles don't blind me to the fact that 40% of the songs they wrote or performed sucked pretty bad [scared]
