Is it better to leave the stickers on the back of the headstock?

Does it affect the value of the guitar in any way if you take off the "Inspected By...", "Handcrafted in ....", and "QC" stickers of the back of the head stock? My Riviera would look cooler if it just had the "Limited Edition" silk screen thing on the back without the stickers. I don't really plan on taking them off though, I'm just bored and curious.

Funny you should ask. I've asked myself the same question since I have a couple of guitars that have those (Elitist Casino, etc.). While I'm not normally a fan of the sticker stuff, I gotta think that there are people out there who, if buying used, are looking for that kind of thing. While I don't plan on selling any of my guitars, my heirs may feel differently  and I'd sure hate to cheat them out of any resale value because of a cheap sticker, so I leave 'em on. YMMV [confused][biggrin]

I leave all the stickers on the back of the neck on mine. I don't know why. Maybe it's because the guitar came that way new, and I always want to remember what it looked like the first moment I saw it. kind of a remembrance of day 1.

Okay, thanks for the responses. I was just curious about it affecting resale value mostly I guess. I don't plan on selling any of my guitars, but I thought it would be a good idea to find out anyway if it would affect value if I did take off those ugly stickers. I think I'll go peel them off right now actually, lol.

Cheers

Guitars resonate better with the stickers off....especially.....

if you have a black pickguard!

(Sorry, couldn't resist)

C'mon now Willy, you know this was just a random thought topic! I figured I would get one of those comments though.

No one had posted anything new all day, so I was bored at work and thought about the stickers on guitars for some reason and made a thread about it (I wondered if ANYONE else had wondered about the same thing). I guess it was a major fail. It's probably better to NOT to do those types of things I guess. Here lately, it seems like it's better to not post anything.

I was bored at home! Thought I'd throw out some humor.

Don't be so hard on yourself.....or me either!

Now, if you care to criticize my humor...that I can understand! Many of my jokes are major fails....no biggy.

I'm beginning to think everyone around here has a case of the mid-winter blues.

The stickers stay on the back of the headstock better then the E logo stays on the pickguard.

ROFLMAO

This is def. one of those 50/50 topics. I usually leave them alone although I don't pay much attention to them.

Exactly, I don't think about them either, and when I'm looking at my guitars for the aesthetics I'm usually looking at them from the front anyway, who cares what the back looks like.

Lots of people??

Anyway, when I made the thread I was just wondering if it affected resale value. I guess it would all depend on who the potential buyer was. I don't really care if the stickers are on there or not either, I was just wondering.

I probably phrased that poorly, didn't mean it to sound flippant, I was responding more to the post I quoted rather than your OP.

I think it depends on the role you have in mind for the guitar in question, if it's a guitar that's not going to be played a great deal and you kept the protective plastic on the pickguard and pups, then it could justifiably be advertised in "As New" condition, which might attract a slightly higher price, but without that protective plastic to go along with the stickers I doubt very much it'd make much difference.

I say take them off ... they're only going to start looking really crappy after playing/cleaning your guitar over time. I hate stickers....but I guess some folks love 'em. It's up to you .... Tiny stickers on the back of the hs are a non-issue in the perceived worth of a guitar. It either plays well, or it doesn't - and even that is a subjective area of assessment. They can be left on, but....unless you never play the darned thing, they're either going to get really ratty looking or come off on their own anyway.

I think that the availability and condition of a guitar/bass will carry more weight than the original sticks still being on the headstock. I don't even know that you can use it for how well an instrument has been cared for, I've seen some with all of the original stick beat all to crap. Like I stated previously this is def. a 50/50 question.

I actually started the exact same thread on the former version of this forum a couple of years back. FWIW, I peel them off as soon as I get the guitar home. The only one I've wondered about is my Valensi Riviera, which was made in Korea based on the little label on the back of the headstock. Apart from that sticker, there's no indication anywhere (except by decoding the serial number) that it is in fact MIK. I wonder if years from now, if people want MIKs more than MICs, I'll have a hard time proving where it was made. Not too worried, just curious whether it'll become an issue.

Cheers
