  1. Recharged my batteries. It was a rough week.
  2. Thank, I forgot who I was using it's been so long. Here all the old Well Tempered Turntables. One is the square motor, t' udder is the later Classic. Cool design as there are no bearings: the platter spindle is in Mobil 1 5/30W with some polypropylene nubs to keep it in check, the arm floats on a paddle partially submerged in silicone goop and is suspended by fishing line. Just a brilliant, stupidly simple, incredibly clever idea. And here's the downstairs system:
  3. Every time I try to post a photo here it says it's too big and this is the ONLY site that does this. I have no idea why, it must be user error on my part. For a turntable, I have two Well Tempered, both with Ortofon 2M Black cartridges with Jolida JD9 phono preamps. Works well.
  4. Unlike SOME PEOPLE, I kept the original albums, bought the CDs and have the remastered vinyl albums. The remastered albums are an improvement over the ones you gave away. Assuming the ZFT doesn't go bankrupt we should be able to amass the entire catalog.
  5. The reissue Zappa albums are all great. I've been buying them as they've been released for the past several years starting with the 200 gram Hot Rats. Not a dud in the bunch.
  6. https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/gibson-pledges-guitars-musicians-affected-185036126.html Good for them!
  7. I haven't been to one in years. They have such high turnover in the staff you'll get a crew you like and then the next time it's a whole bunch of dweebs. I remember showing this one salesman a horribly warped neck on a new Firebird V, he took a look at it and hung it back up on the wall. That spoke volumes.
  8. Nothing a good dollop of hot hide glue won't cure. Just slather it on there with a trowel if you've got one.
  9. Not what you want to hear but strip it for parts and start over with a new one.
  10. I can say that the cryo treatment to tubes does make them sound better. Years ago I did an experiment with the fellow whose business was dipping the tubes. I thought he was full of crap but nope. This was for stereo gear, I don't know if it would make a difference for guitar amps.
  11. Yeah but he can keep that cap.
  12. The Special looks okay, the Standard took a beating. I'd get the black one.
  13. If The Who goes on tour in support of their new album it could always be gifted to Pete Townsend.
  14. Pretty guitars and whenever they feel like there's enough demand for them, I suppose.
  15. If UPS gives you any grief about the box, here's what happens to guitars with that kind of damage: The guitar falls from a conveyor belt and does a belly flop, the shock from the impact causes the neck to crack at the weakest point. The only thing holding that guitar together is the string tension, if you take the strings off that crack will propagate. The box does not have to show any damage as a belly flop will do it.
  16. Mine are all still growing with the Savannah being around 30" and the Dumeril's being around 4 foot. Fully grown they'll be able to wolf down a large rat. Burp!
  17. I currently have 4 monitor lizards: one Savannah and three Dumeril's. What they do best is eat.
  18. No, my last one was a Grey Persian and he was just great but there's too much traffic around here. It's heartbreaking when they get run over. Instead, I keep guard reptiles. People seem to find giant snakes and monitor lizards off putting for some unknown reason.
  19. That's from the Bad Olde Days when the factory only had one light bulb for them to huddle around. Shame, Henry J, for shame!
  20. I have a bunch of cheapie suede-backed straps from Guitar Center and one fancy schmancy one for the Martin (brand unknown but also from Guitar Center). I play it safe and either store guitars with the straps off or resting on top of that case shroud they used to use. I suppose that's what the shroud was for although it always makes me think of old Dracula movies.
  21. I would be on the horn to Gibson if one of their straps damaged the finish on my guitar. That is total bullsh*t.
  22. Calling RCT, RCT your assistance is required in the Gibson USA section...
  23. Married, first wife passed away after 15 years of marriage, I think this one is year 15, about time for a newer model, it seems.
  24. I understand that playing one is truly delightful, it even says so in the ad: Playing the USA Texan is truly delightful
