DamienAzrael Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 I've got 11 Les Pauls both 50's and 60's style necks....4 of them have 60's necks, 4 with 50's necks, and the other 3 have the Slash neck profile...I prefer the fat 50's neck though...I've got big hands.
Phoenix Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 I like 60's... it's slim and fits well with my palm
BlackHawk233 Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 The bigger' date=' the better...[/quote'] Thats what she said......... Anyways. I prefer 50's necks.
Mad Rax Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 Sure the 50's are better.............if you plan to use the neck as a baseball bat. But if you plan to play anything on the guitar except a bunch of chords then use a 60's neck. Naw just kidding! It depends on the sise of your hands. Try the babe out before you buy, that means stay away from the internet (when you buy) and visit a guitar store.
callen3615 Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 I like em chubby. no' date=' [i']thats[/i] what she said.
esch Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 60's for sure. Most comfortable especially at the higher frets.
LPguitarman Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 60's for me. I have small hands, and I can access the high frets easier.
callen3615 Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 IDK, I have a 61 sg and I like that neck. BUT im saving for a lp custom and I guess there kinda like a 59 and they dont feel bad to me.
Thundergod Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 50s for me... I don't feel confortable at all with those slim taper necks... (and don't get me started on Ibanez wizards!)
T50 Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 "Small hands = 60s, big hands = 50s" doesn't really apply to me. Like them both, but 50s feels more sturdy and stable for me.
pippy Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 I preferred the '60 neck. It was quite an influential part of what swung me towards my R0. Then again; I dont have much contact between the crook of my thumb or my palm with the back of the neck. I can see how it would seem too shallow for the comfort of many people.
chongo Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 I've got both. I think for those who live mainly on the first 12 frets, the 50s version is just fine. Part of the distinctive sound of an LP is due to the fact that most folks *don't* venture much above that, primarily because the thick neck heel and chunky body just gets in the way of comfortable play up there. I like necks that are even thinner than the '60's version (and have more of a "D" shape), fretboards that are a bit wider and have a bit flatter radius, and I like smoother neck heels than you find on standard LPs. The closest I've found on a stock LP is the Axcess...
saturn Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 I like my guitar necks like my women. Not too skinny :-
retrosurfer1959 Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 No preference really I have several of each and it doesn't really matter to me anymore.
heymisterk Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 I've had both styles, and tend to simply get used to what I play. The best neck I ever had was the one on my '97 Guild S-100. God, I miss that guitar....
daveinspain Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 I have both but the 60's neck is easier to play if your an older beginner.... :-
Bluemoon Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 The bigger' date=' the better...[/quote'] Isn't that what George Michael said just before he was arrested in the men's room?
