Twiz
Great topic man. Sheesh, there are so many awesome riffs that came out of the 70's. I swear I was born too late sometimes. I really probably have too many in mind to list. I think the 70's was the golden age for guitar based rock.
grampa
I've always liked Brian May's intro to "We Will Rock You". Simple but with a pure essence of rock.

Shnate McDuanus
I think my favorite riff is probably something from Zeppelin--either "The Ocean," "Wearing and Tearing" or "Heartbreaker." "Heartbreaker" was, I think, the first one of theirs that I learned to play. That was a while ago, come to think of it. Of course, "classic rock" as an era or genre was marked by a large number of generally amazing riffs, so it did take a lot of thought to narrow it down. Even now I'm having second thoughts (Blue Cheer's version of "Parchman Farm" is really very compelling, as is The Flying Burrito Brothers' cover of "Sweet Mental Revenge," and...oh man, there are too many other awesome riffs.) Good thread!
