Digger
Having a lot of time to myself I occasionally daydream and have imagined the scenario that I am left say $10,000 by a friend who has passed on and he has specified I spend it on guitars. Given the high prices we pay here in OZ I think that the need for getting the best price and the annoyance I feel at Gibson sometimes would be far overwhelmed by the need for instant gratification and I would be straight down to the local music shop waving the money in my hands. ( no principles at all) I can see one Gibson, an ES335 being in the lineup, an Epi LP Studio in worn brown as they look so cool, an Epi LP goldtop, and I suppose just or the sake of posterity I would have to have Fender Strat or Tele as neither are represented in my modest collection. If I had some change I would add a tube amp to the list. Now before anyone says it, we don't get Elitist models in this country or otherwise that is all I would be buying. So what would be on your list? Apologies for the half senile ramblings of an old man but my disposable income aint that flash so daydreaming helps. Dig P.S. Is there any cure for GAS? mozahlee
I'd buy a Gibson LP Ebony Classic and get it set up really nice and then use the rest of the money for a big marshall half stack!!!!!!!!!

Ron G
None. With that kind of budget, I would want to buy serious quality (and some, prestige, too), not quantity.
charlie brown
Both "Lennon" Casino's, and the rest on "Elitist" Epi's...however many I could get, with what was left. ;>) CB
RotcanX
Well, let's see, first I'd get one of those 'Epiphone' Les Paul Standard VOS 1959 models, then I'd probably get one of those 'Epiphone' SG Standard VOS models. After that, hmmm... maybe a nice Custom. That'd pretty much wipe out $10K... maybe pick up a J45 with the balance.
JefferySmith
Somebody here better say "Brydland". That is a great guitar that gets very little attention because, well, nobody in the Beatles or Stones played it, and Slash probably doesn't know what it is. The only GAS I have these days is for an Elitist Dot (thanks, Spud), and the Gibson Arlo Guthrie acoustic (looks like a small Robert Johnson model). Whitmore Willy
Digger, You really know how to make it tough. Don't know what all I would find along the way. (When I bought my latest Epi it took 6 months of running around the state to find that "one" I was looking for. And...I already knew what I wanted.) At the top of my list would be the best Dot I could find. (Would hope it would turn out to be red.)
Ricochet
I'm not sure what is more depressing. Not having $10000, or having to pick a few out of 2000 guitars I'm gassing for.
byrds1965
If it had to be Epiphone then I would sell off all my stuff that that MIJ Elite line has the same models of. The red SG like Jeff got and would have to see what else they have in that line I could replace my stuff with. Plus a MIJ Casino with the 3 tone burst like I passed on not long ago. The_Sentry
I'd buy the Iommi SG, and the Sheraton II. Maybe a Special II or a LP 100 for experimentation (Heh...and to be honest? That's all that's actually available as far as the Epiphone line for leftie electric guitars.) So, in this instance? I'd probably spend about 2000 dollars tops once I had the cases and accessories, and then I'd have to hand the rest of the money back. Such is life.... EDIT: I suppose I could look at a Dot, but once I had one archtop...eh, that's enough for me. Also, if you're tossing Gibsons into the mix? Hmmm...... Nope. Probably just the 2 guitars. I dunno....I guess I got over my GAS. I'm OK with what I have....

Johnny Winter Firebird Korina Explorer Byrdland Country Artist John Lennon Casino Lucille That's if I had to stick with Epis. My list would be somewhat different if I didn't. lpdeluxe
My Epiphone would be two natural blond Gibson ES-335s, one with Bigsby and one with stop tailpiece. The only Epi I really like, I already own.

Digger
Sorry about the brain strain and anguish boys and also for misleading you in the title. Thought I'd better include Epiphone in it although my musings obviously digressed away from being just Epi. Part of the paranoia the moderators are creating here I suppose. Not to worry it's fun to think about~ Have a good'n Dig

pohatu771
I'd buy either a Lennon Casino (1965) or a vintage... Other than that, I wouldn't buy any Epiphones. With that kind of money, I'd be buying hand-made guitars. Gibson J-45 ($2400) Martin 000-18 ($2000) Gibson Les Paul Studio ($1300) specific Fender Telecaster (I can't find it on MF, but I've seen it in Guitar Center for ~$1200). vintage double-cut Melody Maker (~$1000) The four come to around $6900, the Casino could be anywhere from $1800 to $3500... I'd probably go with the 1965 for around $2000. That would bring me to around $9900.
JefferySmith
I found my Martin to be overhyped. The Texan had much better sound. Martin is a legacy. But it produced 80% of what I was able to get from a $179 Texan.

copper1281734000
I'm pretty satisfied with my guitar collection (even though it's kinda small), but I would add: '56 Goldtop Somesort of SG (not sure what brand, probably epiphone because I currently am dissatisfied with gibsons today) Couple of Agile Les Paul copys. Sheraton I would probably spend most of my money on amps like: Traynor YCV40WR Traynor YCV20WR (I like traynors) Epiphone Valve Junior (have one on the way!) Vox AD50 Vox AC30CC2 Extension cab w/ V30 for my YCV50Blue Z.Vex Nano Marshall 4x12 with Greenback Somesort of 2x12 with V30 Mesa Boogie Stilleto Ace And a nice attenuator that could handle all of those amps As you can see, I like amps a lot more than guitars, but don't know a lot about how amps work :- .
