First ... a moment of silent contemplation for the guitar that gave its life (at my house at least!) so that I could complete my latest act of GAS relief ...

You were a good guitar, old Standard MIM Strat ... you just never got played all that much. I'm sure you'll be happier with someone that will appreciate you more. Until you get sold from the used department at Guitar Center, I promise to keep you tuned and as free from fingerprints and crud as humanly possible. Farewell ...

Now on to my newest family member ... the Epiphone Riviera Custom P93!

I know that this guitar has been around, on and off, for a while and that it has been discussed in the forum several times. I've never had the opportunity to play one, however and I'm not a big fan of purchasing guitars on line without having played it first. I have become a fan of P90 pickups and had been GASing pretty hard for a Casino. I just wasn't all that impressed with the latest offerings and the IBJL just seemed a bit pricey (and I haven't played one of them either. Lo and behold ... this showed up unannounced at the store last week and it was love at first strum!

I immediately put it on lay-away and finished up the deal today by trading in one of my Strats. I know that the forum members here that own one have all been very positive about this guitar and I have to say that I am in complete agreement. I've had very little time to play it (less than two hours) and no opportunity to really open her up at volume, but I am loving what I am hearing so far. Fit, finish and, believe it or not, setup are just about perfect. If it wasn't for the crapola strings on her (to be remedied tomorrow) she would be the first 100% perfect guitar I've ever brought home.

I love the "Limited Edition" ... what do you say, limited to about 10,000 ... or more?

Well, I'm pretty jazzed, Excuse the extremely lousy pics, but I wanted to share ... thanks!

Heh, Heh, Heh....welcome, Jim...to the "Dark Side!" (Dark Red, that is) ;>)

Great guitar...I won't go into my ravings, here...as there have been plenty written

in past forum postings. But, for $499 plus case...it's one Hell of a deal! You probably

did even better, price wise, with your discount(s)? Whatever...I'm sure you'll really

enjoy it! When it, and you "settle in," you will find you will (probably) make a few

adjustments, for personal preferences...but mine too, was near perfect, out of the

box....and that was the first batch, 2 years ago.

Congratulations!

Got to say though...that's a beautiful Strat. A small part of me is feeling sorry for the spurned Stratocaster..(!)

I love both of those guitars Jim, congratulations! Those Epiphone Riviera Custom P93's really are gorgeous looking and are seriously whetting my appetite! If I end up buying one of those you are gonna have some splanning to do to my wife!! I need a Wine Red guitar, for years I always though it would be a Les Paul Deluxe but..... hmmmmm

Thanks for all the kind words, guys ...

I must admit that I did feel a bit like a "bad parent" when I went in to work today at GC. There was my old Strat hanging on the wall among the other used gear. I guess the only solution will be to sell her off quickly (before I start thinking about buying her back myself!) I'm not Strat-less, by the way. I still have this beauty at home for when I'm feeling a bit Robin Trower-ish:

As for the deal I made, between the great employee discount and what I got for the Fender, it was practically a straight-up trade. Of course, I had upgraded the pickguard, but that didn't cost me much either. Working for GC is a blessing and a curse at times ... great prices when you do buy something, but relentless, gut churning GASSSSS! [biggrin]

The Bigsby works great ... as long as you don't overdo it ... just a "shimmer". Tuning seems to be very stable, and once I get the strings changed and a bit of sauce in the nut it should be even better. I do notice that it is a bit looser than the one on my Gretsch. I may end up switching out the spring to a one inch ... or just trying the "penny trick" to see how much it stiffens it up.

I'm still getting to know her, but I am really loving this guitar. P90's are amazing pickups ... I can't believe I went this long withoput a P90 equipped guitar only to get two of them in the space of a month. This thing has tone and ... well, this is a family forum so I'll call it "Moxie" way beyond what you'd expect from a semi-hollow.

On a sort of related note: I'll be attending a Gibson sales clinic tomorrow evening at the Hard Rock Cafe here in Vegas. I'll shoot over there right after the show (only a couple of blocks). I'll have my camera and if anything interesting is shown, I'll be sure and share it with you guys!
