Good Deal...or Waste of money?

I got a good deal on some new drum sticks today.

The older I get, and the more disposable income I have (thank you God), I find myself buying things because they seem like "too good a deal to p*** up". I have done this, in some ways, throughout my life. I still have a set of drum mics I bought about 10 years ago sitting in a closet somewhere. Have not used them yet. But I had to get them because they were on sale. [unsure]

I just got a great deal on these drum sticks. I got 4 pairs of sticks for the price of 3.  And I these are my favorite sticks, for electronic drums.

Thing is, I will probably never even get to use more than one or 2 pairs at the most. You see, eletronic drums have a rubber pad that goes around the outer metal ring on the drum head.  I have never broken a stick, or even slightly damaged a stick using an electronic drum set. But...it could happen. Acoustic sets are totally different and have metal rings that are exposed to drum sticks and can do great damage with one wrong hit; cracking or breaking the beater. But of course, I use a different size stick for my acoustic set.

Anybody else have the TGADTPU syndrome?

Or perhaps you really did find a good deal and want to share it!

Killer. I know less than nothing about drum sticks. Yeah this site filters some words that make you go WTF and some words you think will get x'ed out pass.

I just typed pass and voila, it is there. Maybe you accidentally typed p-uss, and it though you were going to the porn zone.

Got a killer price on the Timex chronograph watch on the left then decided I liked the chronograph on the right a little more - slightly easier to read.

Bought them both ... do I need 2?

You don't need two you wanted two, that is the difference.

I can get the time off my cell phone. I do have a Swizz made Mondaine pocket watch I got when I was in Switzerland. I didn't need it I wanted it.

Brad,

Funny that you should bring up this topic.

There is a seller on Kijiji here in Toronto selling an inexpensive Epiphone acoustic guitar, but what makes it a fantastic deal is that it comes complete with a pick!!!!!

Now if that doesn't make it too good a deal to pass up, I don't know what does.

Wow how can whoever is selling the Epi spare to just give away an entire guitar pick with a resale value of what could be up to 50 cents.

Quick, send me how to get in contact with this guy. I can not pass this deal up.

I've been wanting a pick for a long time, and this seems to be the right opportunity to acquire one. [smile]

Here in the UK we have a German-owned supermarket chain called Lidl.  They sell power tools which are branded Parkside and these are a cheaper Bosch line made specially for Lidl (afaik).

I recently bought a f***in' great hammer drill, complete in carry case with 2 big sharp chisels and 2 drill bits at an unmissable price - I've got some concrete and rubble to break up in my garden.  Buying the drill is cheaper than renting a big power tool for a few days.

Then there's the cordless soldering iron I haven't used yet but I couldn't pass that up,  the Dremel-like motor tool and box of extra bits and attachments - had to have that although I've hardly used it!

The most useful thing I got is a cordless screwdriver which came in a carry case with lots of bits, superbly designed and built, the best tool I've bought for many years.

All good sturdy stuff.

I sometimes buy stuff I don't need at the time just because of the deal.  I think it has to do with how you were brought up.  My parents grew up during the depression in the US and scrimped and saved every penny they could.  By the time I got to high school my father was making a very good living and they didn't need to do that, but still did.  Because I was brought up in that environment I do it too even though I don't really need to anymore.  I'll buy two cans of coffee at the grocery if it's on sale, even when I have an almost full can at home.  There is a place that sometimes offers golf balls "buy 3 dozen - get a 4th dozen free".  I can't pass it up.  But I know eventually I will use all the coffee or golf balls or whatever, I don't think I've bought something and stuck it in the closet for 10 years and never used it.

Tell you what----

Get married, have a couple of kids and get divorced after 15 years.  I guarantee that a few years of dealing with the Friend Of The Court system, combined with a conniving vengeful ex wife and all those support and alimony payments will get you out of any frivolous spending habits you might have or might develop REAL quick.  Regardless of how well you can afford anything.  [wink]

I do the same thing, and I don't even drink coffee or play golf.

You guys might want to jump on this deal,  an entire warehouse full of VHS tapes!

We could corner the market!

We had 2 big cabinets full of them. Tons of movies that Deb our son and I had, I noticed several of them don't work as well over all the years and I threw them all out as our VHS recorder doesn't work anymore. Deb's aunt threw all hers out to.

I hear ya!  And the Aunt threw them out "to" where?  [wink]

Back in the earlier days of VHS I got into the renting and copying those rentals.  I once had a library of 600+ titles that when I had to move quickly 10 years ago I had to leave about 50-60% of them behind.  Had 'em all numbered and cataloged.  I still currently use a VHS/DVD combo player as many of the tapes I kept still play well with some not being available on DVD.  Damn if I'm going to let the market tell me completely how to live! [-X

I just recovered hundreds of my old vinyl LPs (not quite all of em) from the old house I'm selling. Nothing to play 'em on though. So will be moving them on. Even CDs are becoming harder to find because people are more into digital/cloud storage.

So... I've found a used CD vendor now. Just got a delivery in today. A bit of everything for around £15 : Johnny Dankworth / Calexico / Beatles / Shubert. All in good condition.

As I recall albums like guitars are just for looking at.

Dibs on The Beatles. Wait I own 8 copies of just The White Album and 3 or 4 of them are CD's.

Chief,

I own one J45, which is exactly how many versions of it I need.

RBSinTo

Gibson would have you believe you need them all. I was in a Guitar Center yesterday. And the exact number of Gibson I own were the exact number of Gibson acoustics in the acoustic room.  There were 2 USA made Martins. Both 000-15M's. I want one of them, but don't need one. I did play a Epi SJ-200 12 string. I got tired of waiting for the helpful associates, so I broke Guitar Center laws and climbed the ladder myself to get. As it was up on the 3rd row. I would say it was worth exactly $550, which was how it was priced.

Chief,

As I've said before, the mantra of the Gibson Marketing Department is "If we build it, they will buy".

I wanted a slope-shouldered Spruce/Mahony dreadnought guitar, and because of its repaired broken headstock, mine was available at an excellent price, so I grabbbed it. I'm very happy with its sound, but that's it. I don't need any more J45 variants.

I would consider a maple guitar, if the price was reasonable, but would prefer a Seagull as the comparably priced Epiphones EJ 200's are just so tastelessly garrish.

My all maple Guild JF-30 was nice when I had it, but my rule is if I don't play it - it goes, and it did, cause I didn't.

I was in a used record and book shop buy my house a few weeks back and they have cheap used guitars there too. I guess they know nothing about guitars cause on the tag of the Chinese made Guild it says its a Guilo. I laughed when I saw that. It kind of looks like that from far away.

Priscilla had some great ones, She gave us all of hers.  We did the same as you, We recorded most of them all off of tv.  I have no idea how many we had, I'm guessing around at least a thousand or more. Maybe 1,600 too 1,800? They filled trash sack after trash sack full and some were videos of Christmas together and vacations. I had one that channel 3 news did of me giving their camera man a ride down the quarter mile.  I told them it wasn't legal because the passenger seat was a dummy seat. It was not bolted to the frame, it just had 2 quick release pins holding it to the aluminum floor. The track officials approved it and they wanted to get a perspective of me coming off the line with the race car besides me slightly in front of me. The whole thing was screwed up. I wasn't supposed to get on it hard. At the Christmas tree, my line lock froze and wouldn't release. The Nova shot way out in front.  I taped  the line lock switch a couple of times and it released.  The Colt shot off the line like a rocket when the guy in the Nova slowed down not knowing what happened.  I shot way out in front of him while he accelerated trying to catch me. I was so far ahead of him that he couldn't catch me till the end and I was hitting the brakes the whole time letting him catch me Lol. I got back in the pits and the camera guy couldn't wait to get out. He told channel 3 news, "Never Again.!"  Haha, I think he crapped his pants.  He was scared stiff.  I may have done a wheel stand coming off the line.  I'll always miss that one but I know of no-one that has a VHS for sale.  They are all gone anyway.
