Yes.  I hope he is too.

Bence checked in recently and Valeriy.  I wonder what Versatile is doing.  I think 4Hayden who I played the song association game with must have died as he was badly ill.

There are loads more I didn't know so well.  Searcy was great, Rev Lee, Charlie Brown, Kaleb, Retro, Rocketman - I hope they are all ok.   Tman also.

Oh yeah, Bence did pop in recently, you're right... Learned at lot from him, just like I did from Capmaster. All the good tips and tricks I've tried to pass on to others needing advice.

I remember him from the Epiphone forum.  Didn't know his health was that bad.  But I hope he left because he got tired of it all and is still among the living.

But I'd STILL like to know whatever became of BOBSKIPPY.  He was a veritable Gibson products encyclopedia.

Indeed. Probably the best nutter ever seen in these parts.

I went and met up with Roger this evening, can't remember his forum name (long gone from here).

It must have been a trip to meet Roger. I secretly wished he would fly me out to join in on one of his awful jam sessions.

I kind of miss SGPlayer too, just for the drama. (I'm pretty sure he's here under another name that doesn't post often. I even found a Youtube comment under what I assume to be his real name - from the content, no way in hell it's not him! But, of course, I won't out him.)

It's funny ... The thread's title is exactly how I don't feel about the Gibson forums anymore ... "appreciation" or the lack thereof.  So making a post like this only seems so mostly appropriate in this thread, in particular.  There is a decidedly lack of interesting new threads, and some very questionable posts for the viable new threads that do come into being.  As such, I am announcing my departure from the forums for at least a good while.  I am a huge fan of Gibson guitars, so I am sure it will probably be only temporary ... or not.  Don't worry ... you won't miss me.    :   )

I was off the forum for several years....but I didn’t announce it, just didn’t visit here.      Once I retired, I have more time on my hands.....so I came back...right now, waiting fir the wife to get ready, then we’re off to Monterey for 5 days in the Motor home!

Agreed. I occasionally used to pester CB to sell me his Vox Tone Bender lol but haven’t heard from him in forever

Someone mentioned Fuzzy Fred. I’m still “friends” with him on Facebook (which I don’t use but occasionally check in on) and he seems to be doing great, but I don’t think he’s playing guitar anymore.

A couple years ago I met up with EVOL in Chicago. I’m gonna have to send him a message and see what he’s up to

it was great hearing from dem00n though

Shred....Izzy......Axe (legend)......Surfpup......Pippy of course.....Donny!!!  [wink]

I have really enjoyed, and continue to enjoy, the Gibson Forum since I joined, especially the Lounge.    Very supportive at times.

Yes it is mostly much quieter than in the past but I quite like that too.   Is what it is and what you/we make of it.   Doesn't have to be epic drama.

I hope it carries on.   The Fender forum closed though I'm not sure why.

Best wishes to all, once again.

It had already jumped the shark, but unfortunately the  'upgrade' from the blue site to the current white site where you could no longer see if you were in a conversation (often with several people!) really snuffed out most of whatever life was left. A new thread had to be good to stay on page one for a day back around 2014-15, but now stuff hangs around in the absence of anything else for maybe a week.

So be it - all good things come to an end eventually...and it was good,  even the Epi lounge was quite lively at one time - I personally can say I learned a lot back then and enjoyed the discussions. [thumbup]

HI Dem00n,  awesome story; how you were able to channel creative drive into an impressive career.  Don't ever loose focus on what's important to you.  I just joined the forum a month ago, and like you have an EE degree, now retired and living large (well, large enough to finally have time to play the guitar).  Go forth and kick-@$$

Thanks!

It's great to see that you're doing so well for yourself. Check back in occasionally, even if you aren't actively playing guitar or buying Gibsons.  Us old people will still be here posting the same stuff.

Great to see you saturn!

Bridge of Sighs is a great album. There is a connecting building bridge in NYC called the Bridge of Sighs as criminals always pass the bridge towards prison...and sigh along the way. The bridge is not Italian

hi Dem00n, I came 2015. Too late to remember you, but glad to see this post.

Your story is inspirational. Thanks for sharing it. Enjoyed the Trower too. A song I've not heard before.

Glad you enjoyed the song, it's my favorite Trower song!

That's a cool thing about the music industry - there are a lot of different career paths you can follow, and the technology is a moving target so there is always something new to learn.

I have a similar story about how I got started in IT support.  For me, it was an optional summer school program in my public school when I was about 9 or 10 years old.    They had Commodore 64 computers at the time and we learned to write code using BASIC.    A few decades (and school loans) later, I'm the network administrator for a K-12 school district.   Something that seems small can make a huge change in your life/career path.

One of the aspects that education cannot teach its students, is that career paths are never linear.

Good post demOOn.  I joined the Gibson forum(and the Epiphone forum too) way back in '99 or 2000 or so, back when a guy known as BOBSKIPPY was a frequent contributer.  I used to have his personal e-mail address and we'd communicate back and forth that way for a while.  And then due to a combination of PC issues and forum site issues I was off both forums for a length.  And maybe nine years ago, any e-mails I sent to Bobskippy were returned by the "Mailer Daemon", meaning the address was no longer valid.

But I don't know if it's fair to say belonging to ANY forum(and I spread myself over several) has shaped my life in any fashion.  But communicating with people from a wide variety of locations and with an equal wide variety of POV's and thoughts and insights certainly made my retirement more interesting.  [wink]   And I don't play as I used to either, but my reason is mostly a "mini" stroke I went through seven years ago still affects my dexterity and endurance.  But I do constantly work to improve them.  And since I don't play guitar for my livelihood, there's nothing at stake except satisfying my personal satisfaction,  and there's plenty of room for other interests as well.  So please keep at it.  And get yourself a decent acoustic.  If ever there's a power outage, you can still pass the time constructively.  [biggrin]

Whitefang

Don't worry, I have an Epi acoustic for occasions just like that. Glad to hear you working out the kinks of your stroke.

Of course I remember you Dem00n.... I was a member back then...and stopped frequenting the forums for many years.... came back after I graduated.    There are still many of the old-timers on here.....and (thankfully) new people too.

I can imagine working and studying for your Doctorate is time-consuming...but stop by when you can.

Love to hear success stories....Keep us posted as to when we can start calling you "Doctor Dem00n"!

Thank you, Doctor Dem00n has an interesting kick to it...

This raises the possibility that, despite the animosity that sometimes raises its ugly head here - even driving beloved members away -  this forum probably does much more good for members of all sizes and shapes - than we are aware of.    Thanks Demoon.    Wow - nearly 11,000 posts.   You were busy.

This place kept me more busy then school ever did...

Not sure if you still listen to Death, but I do. I first learned about them from you, and I’m still a big fan.

This last couple weeks I’m really hooked on Toxik - World Circus which as you may know features some background vocals from Chuck

Hey man, did you ever use those components I sent you a couple years ago?

Death is still my favorite band. World Circus is a great album, but Think This is superior in every way to my ears. I never knew about the background vocals from Chuck!

Here's one of my favorite albums of the year, a thrash masterpiece from Demoniac in Chile!

dem00n!  You're back! (if only for one last post?)

I'm glad you're doing well.

At which national lab did you do a stint?  I worked for over 41 years in the DOE complex, and I visited several of the labs over that time.

I had a stint at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. DOE is fun, until you run out of grant money and you need to find a new job. Not fun...

This is one of the nicest places on the Internet IMHO.

Although I do kind of miss back when I bought a guitar, then played the guitar, and that was it. These days, it's more like, no, haven't actually recorded with it - still having trouble with the G and B saddle to saddle height ratio. Possibly. Can't tell until my luthier comes back.

Agreed. Call your luthier, or maybe find a new one? Or you could just learn to fix it yourself...that's hard though.

Well everyone, thank you for the hellos and comments! It was great seeing all of you again (regardless if it's the last time or not). When/If I record that album dream of mine, this will be the first place I'll share it. I'll try to play more guitar, I was getting pretty good at finger picking...

I'll see you guys around!

Thats great to hear that you’re still listening to good music. I’m gonna check out that album today!

btw I’ve been into a lot of bands lately of course but I can’t stop listening to Vektor
