motowntom
hi all, newbie to this forum, long story short, a cust. of mine saw the les paul on my laptop desktop and got to talking about guitars. he asked me if I would be interested in a old guitar, i said yes and he proceeded to pull out a case from under his bed, poped the case and there was my now new to me 1966 e230td casino in perfect condition. he went on to explain that he bought it new and took lessons for a few months and just kind of gave up. twhe guitar has since been under his bed for the last 39 years! nice sunburst with the original case, hang tag, and a mel bay " learn to plat guitar book" with a price of $1.00 on the cover! L.O.L., it is in as new condition and plays like nothing i have ever played! the action is almost to low!, .he asked if i would be interested in making a deal on the windows i was trying to sell him. I knocked off $300.0 wrote the order and walked out with the giutar and a 1966 soloid stae 1x8 25 watts amp thats extreemly loud. moral of the story i can happen!! pics to follow tomarrow. nice to be onboard and finally the owner of a true vintage guitar. cheers. animalfarm
That's one of my "dream stories" - "I found this OLD, Dusty guitar in Grandpa's attic, do you WANT it?" ME: Ummmm, Well - it IS kind of DUSTY... MAYBE I can clean it up a little. Sure! AND YOU FOUND IT!!!!! Big time congrats, and please put me in your will. NOW!!!! freak show
Wow, congratulations, you really found yourself a sucker didn't you? I don't suppose you've heard of Karma, but essentially it means "What goes around comes around". If there is any truth in this principle, you just might not want to get too excited about taking advantage of someone's ignorance. But then again, a person who has to make his living by selling windows to senior citizens may already be experiencing the adverse effects of cosmic justice... LOL j/k everyone has to learn sometime - there's a nicely compiled tutorial here if you get stuck==> http://forums.epiphone.com/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=8886 Maybe there should be a tutorial for finding the "Search" button on the forums too? But I guess nobody would ever be able to find it . . . OK Imma go back to praying for a $300 vintage guitar to fall into my lap Congrats, that's a "once in a lifetime" . . . motowntom
windows as in high end wood windows with an average project cost of $22,000.00 in 08, so my reply to old scratch is this: im 50 yrs. old and have been a window and door consultant for my company for over 21 yrs., my cust. are generally delighted with our products and my service, i have a high 4 figure income and have 2 kids in collage. i am proud of my career and proud of the find i made on the casino, my cust. knew exactly what he was doing and felt he got a fair deal otherwise he woulbnt have agreed to it. we all dream of finding that 65 mustang in a barn under a tarp, and i know you would have done the same as me, as far as carma goes, the guitar will now be well cared for and played and recorded by a musician that can truly appreciate it, let that puppy run! I will post pics tonight. and i am proud to own this guitar and finally be a true vintage forum member, i have lurked for years but didnt own anything that i felt qualified, to everyone these things can happen and i beleave it was fate. cheers T.N.T. midiman56
Guys ... Tom was told it had been laying under a bed for almost 40 years ... it's not like the owner has to sell it to buy bread and milk! How about we share in a new member's good fortune and the fact that a vintage instrument has been brought back from obscurity? Sometimes good things happen ... there doesn't always have to be the "pendulum swing" of something crappy happening in return for God's sake! Maybe the "karma" here was that Tom got this guitar? clarkuss
You lucky lucky *********!!! Congratulations! These are the stories some of us can only dream about. Can't wait to see the pictures. pohatu771
Assuming that finding the guitar was not an act of Karmic retribution, there will be no "bad" Karma placed upon Tom... "Bad" Karma is only received when you commit an act that harms someone, with the intention to harm someone. Opening your car door as a guy on a bike is riding buy, causing him to hit it, will not cause anything bad, unless you intended to knock the man from his bike. Lord Summerisle
To be honest, it's none of my damned business how much he paid for his guitar... Perhaps the problem is the slight ambiguity in the original post ("$300.0") - maybe a typo? Seeing he mentioned that the average cost of one of his window orders is in excess of $20K, perhaps the "karmic" commentators are thinking this way... If he knocked $3000 off the cost of the windows in lieu of the Casino, then fair play. If he knocked off $300 and took the Casino then...well...he did kind of screw the old guy, given that you'd expect even a little more than that for a used, recent, Chinese-made Epiphone Casino. And no-one in their right mind who wasn't desperate or completely ignorant would sell a mint '66 Casino for $300. So yeah, I do dream of finding a '65 Mustang under a tarp in a garage. Just wouldn't feel great about giving the owner $50 for it, even if that's all he thought it was worth. Still, like I said, none of my business. So perhaps I should shut the **** up... By the way...$20,000 for windows?? That's 1/5 of the value of my house! It's great being Southern! EDIT: Heck, I don't dream about finding a Mustang in garage. I dream about finding a Chevy Chevelle in a garage. A Mustang ain't no muscle car where I come from. This isn't California...
