Gibsons not yet played

I suspect I'm in a tiny minority here but there are a few Gibson guitars I would love to try but never have (yet).

They are :

J200

 L5 (any)

ES-175

ES-335 - (yes really!)

Corvus

Obviously there are a bunch more, but the above are the ones that I like and am curious about. The ones I really want to play; if only for a few minutes.

Some of the high end ones I could never justify buying anyway. They would be fun guitars, not working guitars. Though I suppose my gigging days are running down now. Perhaps if I picked up that prohibitively expensive 175 I might discover that I actually want it ; and that would be a problem.

So when the shops open again and we are free to move...

What about the rest of you?

Oddly  enough, there aren't really all that many Gibsons that I have yearned to play, but never had the chance to hold.
* A proper Firebird
and, a cheap one,
* the 1970's Gibson Marauder

There are also a few that I'll probably never hold or play, but mainly because I'm not a fan of them.
The Flying V - Never much cared for the aesthetics on that guitar
Super 400 - Big, beautiful, ugly, bling-y, expensive beast.  Not my thing.

Okay, I'm gonna shut up now.
:(

If you try you'll wanna buy!

I've owned most of the above & all are great Guitars..

I've played, fell in love with The J-200's. They are amazing.. One of the best Acoustics ever made. IMO

I'd love to try a Vintage '65 Firebird VII with Maestro (Reverse) & a Vintage Firebird VII with Maestro (Non - Reverse) like Brian Jones Played.

Debbie Gibson

I'd give her the full set up.

355, 345, lots of acoustics, a lot of the weird 80's  shaped ones, LP Recording, and I'm sure some others.

Oh and a tasteful '59 Burst.

25/50 Les Paul, 3-pickup Artisan, '54 staple pickup Custom (I'd settle for a reissue), Johnny Smith, Byrdland, L4, L5, L7 and all the other f-hole classics, Super 400 and Western Sky, some of the recent ES-types......to name a few.  Charlie Christian's ES150.....and some of the big acoustics too.

@merciful-evans I have a lovely 2013 ES175 - though it has a Bigsby.  When times are better you must visit. [cool]

I saw one behind glass at Carter's Vintage. The price tag was about 50k off what our house is worth.  It had 3 numbers before the comma and 3 after.

So unfortunately I probably never will. I want to play one because it was my birth year and importantly, it was the first year made with my all time favorite neck profile.

I learned recently that that year there were 3 profiles with the last being the one I'm talking about. Pippy, I am certain, could tell me a bunch more.[biggrin]

The best neck I ever played was an Explorer in the early 80's.  I used a Les Paul Custom back then and I wish I'd tried different guitars. There are guitars I'd like to try now, but most shops have an air of 'Why are you in here'?

I’d like to play the J-200 Dylan is holding on the cover of Nashville Skyline, just to see if it was really worth drooling over.  And maybe Lennon’s Casino.

Not asking for much 🙂

J-200 is a definite YES! I have a friend who has the nicest sounding one I've ever heard. I'm waiting for him to sell it to me!

I have a '65 IBJL Lennon Revolution Casino in Natural, a Peerless '65 in Sunburst Casino with Bigsby & a Sunburst 50th Anniv. RI Casino with Tremotone (like Keith Richards). They are the most versatile Electric Guitars there are IMO.. The answer to that question a Big Triple Yes!

Actually, I’m already fortunate enough to have the J-200 & Casino/330 bases covered.  I was just thinking about how these two specific guitars (Dylan & Lennon) might play & sound, after having spent so much time staring at them.  The full-size album cover of Nashville Skyline made it seem like that sunburst J-200 was practically in your hands!

That's just plain wrong 😄

Yeah, yeah, I get it.
I'm a heretic.

I love Gibson, always have.
I have owned a half dozen Les Pauls over the past 40 + years, along with an SG and my recent gift, the Firebird Zero.

But the Flying V just never did a thing for me.

The psychology of what makes something (or someone) attractive to one person, and not another?
That's some really deep study right there.

😓
