I put a ernie ball strap with a rubber locking washer on my les paul and the leather of the strap is starting to tear already on the "horn" of the les paul. Is there a strap that is designed for a les paul? The gibson strap that came with the les paul is pretty much the same as the cheap ernie ball strap. jdgm Posted February 19, 2021 Share Posted February 19, 2021 (edited) Security and comfort are the 2 tests. A 2" nylon strap may begin to bite into your shoulder at the edge. A 3" strap may be an improvement - or not. Your average Ernie Ball-type strap is ok up to a point but if you have an expensive guitar, don't risk it with a cheap strap....like the cheapie Fender faux-leather ones I bought last year! They ripped at the strap button hole very quickly. False economy. With the cheaper nylon straps the leather ends are usually thin, glued together and inevitably tear. So it's worth spending a bit on a good strap for your nicest guitar(s). I have 2 Levy's for my Gibsons, and I also bought Schaller strap locks and fitted them, keeping the standard buttons as spares. Cheaper plastic/nylon straplocks (retaining washers etc) are available from Dunlop and D'addario to name 2, and these are an alternative. leftyguitarist Posted March 1, 2021 Share Posted March 1, 2021 I use a KLIQ AirCell guitar strap. It's really comfortable, 3" wide with lots of padding and seems pretty strong. I already have Schaller strap locks on my Les Paul Studio, but it fits nicely. It also fits just as well on my 'normal' strap buttons on other guitars.
