In 1965 when Gibson made the 2 Casino's that went to John Lennon & George Harrison, I wonder if they knew who were getting these guitars & why does John's have the black ring arount the 3 way switch?

He removed the black ring.

Why?

What did he do with it?

Where is it now?

Why didn't George get one?

Did this piss George off?

I thought Ringo was the one into rings........

I bet John gave his ring to Ringo.

Makes sense.

Giving the ring to Ringo would make sense. LOL

However John never removed the ring. He did remove the pickguard but the Epi pickguards were & still are ugly.

I've heard a few stories about the black ring. One was that the wood or finish around the selector switch hole was chipping when they drilled it, so they put the ring on whatever guitars were damaged so that they could still sell them.

From what I've researched, it was hit-or-miss whether guitars got them, which makes me think that story is correct. I used to be able to search online and find a dozen examples of 65-66 Casinos, and half would have them and half wouldn't. I've only been able to find about five (E230TD) tonight, and none did.

And yes, John's had one, George's didn't. Neither did Paul's, for that matter, but his was several years older.

It was a conspiracy' date=' I think the CIA was behind it...[/quote']

The ring had a satellite transmitter to know where John was playing his guitar, that is how they knew the location of their last gig on that rooftop, true story :-

I am fairly certain the folks at Epiphone knew to whom these were going. As I recall they went right down to the factory and picked them out. The good folks at Gibson made moderate gadilla about the whole thing.
