In Case Of Fire - Grab Your Most Expensive or Grab Your Favorite?

If the proverbial fire hits, do you reach for your most expensive guitar or do you grab your favorite?

My favorite is my Strat - always plays what I want, how I want. Love her.

But I have to say I grab the 12 string Ric. A three thousand dollar guitar with a two year waiting list for a new one is tough to replace.

Hey' date=' you got two hands, grab 'em both...or, as many as you can carry!

Alright, one hand was terribly burned in the proverbial fire. Means you can grab just one guitar. What's it going to be - favorite or most expensive?

Come on, man, you can't sit on the fence in a hypothetical scenario.

Neither. My most expensive is the Martin, my favourite s either the Martin or the Casino (but the classical is giving them both a run)... but I'd grab the Gibson.

It's worth little-to-nothing, it's unplayable at the moment, and once it is playable, it's an unusual sound. But it has sentimental value - it was given to me by my music teacher, and was owned by my elementary school principal.

I'd grab my '99 Cherry Sunburst Dot.

Because its getting harder to find dots in that color, but mostly because it was a gift from my cousin.

He found it when he was stationed in japan (he was in the navy).

So its got the most sentimental value of all my gear.

As much as it pains me to say it, I think I would grab the fake Gibson. Mainly because the insurance will be able to replace the rest, but I've put a LOT of blood, sweat, and beers into getting that fake playing like I want it to, and I would have an impossible time even finding another like it to do it all over again. The rest could be found again in stores, or Ebay in the worst case scenario. Well, maybe except the PRS copy, but I'd probably just claim it was a real one on the insurance and replace it with the real deal, LOL...

Taking the guitars on the Insurance is illegal when you declare it as something else. Naughty Naughty. tell the truth for once it won't kill you.

I know that, I just figured it was safe, being hypothetical and all... I'd never commit insurance fraud in real life, have no fear...

No, I would sacrifice the fake PRS to save the fake Paul. I would rightfully claim the Gibson and Epi on the insurance, and I wouldn't really be too worried about replacing the samick or the Strat, or the hollow fake for that matter. Of course if this were a real emergency, I would actually be more worried about my daughter than any guitars... But as soon as I had her safe, I would quickly stack all the guitars on top of the Mesa and roll the whole lot out at once. But that answer wasn't in the spirit of the original question...

Hypothetically...grab the SG w/ the one good hand and strap it on, and carry the Wildkat out...it's a cop out to the question, I know, but I just couldn't see myself taking only one when they all sit together on a rack! In fact, I have done it before for cleaning purposes-and w/ adrenaline in a fire it would be a breeze-I might just pick up the whole electric guitar rack and run!

If the house catches fire' date=' the only non-human part of the household I care about saving is this...anything else can be replaced:

Summerisle, you, and the person that said "my cat" have good hearts........

I have 6 dogs (all inside/outside via a "doggie door" in our back door)

But i'd grab the most obvious thing..........

Well...If one hand was "terribly burned," you'd probably NOT play guitar again...so, it wouldn't matter! ;>b

LOL...OK, OK...it would have to be my '64 Strat! It was my first Electric, and is still

the one I would never sell. But, since I can carry two guitar cases with one hand (awkwardly),

I'd probably carry out one of my Rickenbacker 12-strings, too. ;>)

Screw the guitars, I can always buy others.....

However, if I could save one axe without putting myself in danger, it would be the 82 Charvel strat my Dad gave me as a highschool graduation gift. Though my son is currently abusing it, that axe in particular means so much to me.

Many Options:

1. Grab favorite, have friend take quick photo of you jamming surrounded by FLAMES!

(Can't buy stage effects like that...).

2. Guitars in cases? Keep coil of rope handy IN SAME ROOM, string rope thru ALL case handles,

grab rope, run like hell!

3. Guitars on stands? Keep same coil of rope handy, speed slip-knot around each neck, grab

rope, run like hell. Fix damage later, at least you have all your gits.

4. No rope? Keep all guitars wrapped in foil when not being played.
