Sort of Music -

Just finished the audio version of Tom T Hall's Story Tellers. There is some pickin' in between the chapters.

It's an updated version of his book from a few years ago that gives a good look at the Nashville scene from the mid sixties to mid seventies.

Very enjoyable if you an older country music fan.

New additions:

Jim Hall and Charlie Haden live 1990 - top-notch and superb jazz duet concert recording, pity neither of them lived to see this one released

Herbie Hancock - Flood (live in Japan 1975) now on a single CD - blazing and ferociously funky, one of his finest lineups; drummer Mike Clark is incredible and there are some proper vintage synth mega-blasts on "Chameleon".

The Definitive Elmore James - 2CD set - not really "def" as it omits some classic Elmore tracks but cheap and the guitar playing is timeless. You cannot get that tone these days!

Wilko Johnson / roger Daltrey - "Goin' Back Home" - the best rock album, er the only rock album I've heard recently, 36 pretty awesome mins of mean, no frills rock. Daltrey sings lower and real good but they missed the chance to call it 'Roger Wilko'.... [biggrin]

Mcoy Tyner - "Guitars" - oh dear....whose idea was this? Who is responsible? Jazz titan (with Ron Carter And Jack DeJohnette) meets Marc Ribot, John Scofield, Bela Fleck, Derek Trucks and Bill Frisell (one at a time). Only Scofield is really up in the same zone though Frisell does well enough, the rest of it just doesn't fit or work well at all IMO. Patronising, risible and silly sleeve booklet notes by producer John Snyder. Getouttahere.

T-Bone Walker "Good Feelin'" - late T-Bone (1970) recorded in France and one of the best later recordings. I love T-Bone Walker's playing.

Classic on LP I played the other night:

Otis Rush "Mourning In The Morning" - not his best-known or greatest album but has Duane Allman (playing rhythm!) on it and produced by Bloomfield and Gravenites; packs a serious punch and we all know how he can play the blues. Legend!

Regards to all!
