ImOnEdge
Hey folks, wondering, have any of you been disappointed with your Epiphone purchase? I have NEVER been a fan of Epiphone because I believe you do not get what you pay for when you buy a Gibson. As such, I have avoided Epiphone thinking if I was not impressed with Gibson it could only go downhill with the Epiphone. Thoughts anyone? Clanky44
Welcome to the forum ImOnEdge,.... although your question kinda sniffs of trolling, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.... Four Epi's in this household and not one regret. Fantastic build quality on all of them and great tone. The humbuckers on my SG are a tad on the muddled side but for a $400 git,.... it ain't bad. My Casino, my Sheraton and my wife's NV Riv are fantastic gits. I'd say put your Gibby bias aside and give an Epi a try,.... you'll be pleasantly surprised. Whitmore Willy
I love my Gibson but......I also love my Epiphones. My only regret is that if I buy any more (and there are a few others I would like) my wife will disown me. Now I'm thinking and smiling. Morkolo
I'm happy with my Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus and I'm happy with the Epiphone EJ200CE that my Father owns. I'm happy with the Epiphone Les Paul ProFX my brother picked up last year that I did a full set up on for him that left me thoroughly impressed. There's no doubt if I had money to blow I'd probably replace every piece of hardware that's replaceable on my LP, but that's just me being anal because it does the job as is for the moment and when I'm ready I'll probably be moving up to a Gibson anyway. Keep in mind the price you pay for an Epiphone in comparison to a Gibson... you can't expect a comparable Gibson at an Epiphone price. There are very nice Gibson style guitars from other brands on the market as well if Epiphone doesn't do it for you, almost every manufacturer makes their own version of the Les Paul, but they're all different. Who knows maybe it's Epiphone you're looking for or maybe it's something else, the one thing I do know is I can't make up your mind for you... you'll have to do that all by yourself. A good place to start would be to let us know what gear you already own and what music you play so people can do a better job of suggesting what models for you to look at if you are indeed interested in one. damian
I haven't owned a bad Epi..........Sure, just like all guitar brands, bad ones slip through, and some Epi production lines have had some kinks......But.......
Sada Yairi
I own two Epis, including one that I just acquired (yet to post pics!). Build quality and finish on the older one (a Dot, made by Samick I think) is immaculate and has stood the test of time (20yrs so far). The new one is not as good - build quality great, but finishing not 100%. I am very pleased with both purchases - the old one because it's beautifully made, and the new one because no-one else makes anything quite like a Wildkat at anywhere remotely close to the Epi price. Having played several Epis over the last few months in my search for a new guitar, I found they varied a fair bit. The best made and finished one I played was a Wilshire which is not by any means an expensive guitar. Try them, and if you buy an Epi don't get it delievered to you - pick it up from a shop where you can try it (check it, have it set up properly etc) before you take it home. bob_amos
Nope not me either. I have a 1994 Epi Les Paul Studio. Love that thing.. Wife just purchased for my birthday, an Epi Les Paul Special II (Both lefty guitars) and this less expensive instrument plays like a dream. My only complaint is the Special II came with lefty pots and righty knobs. Gibson says they do not have black lefty speed knobs. Funny thing, that Studio came with righty pots and knobs to match. For a mere $5 I can fix the wrong knobs though. Love both guitars but not too impressed with Gibson's answer to my problem. But.. I love these so much I will be purchasing more in the future. Epi Rocks
I have 3 Epi's, 2 Gibson's, 1 Fender, 1 Squier and have had heaps of other brad names. I haven't regretted any. Although all of them barr my old '67 SG, are not perfect, they're pretty damn close. Paul
LHW
Hey folks, wondering, have any of you been disappointed with your Epiphone purchase? Yeah, sure. I was disappointed in my Ultra-III experience, but it hasn't turned me against Epi, or anything like that. In fact, right now I'm GASsing for an Epi AJ-100CE. Played it a few weeks ago, and thought the price tag would've been closer to the $600 range. I was very surprised to see it at $150! Am hoping that a few people get my not-so-subtle hints, and get it for me for Father's Day. ;) :D
SNick
I have had both Epi's and Gibson's. Epi is the better value for your dollar. I no longer have the Gibson's. I still have an Epi. Just in case........
charlie brown
Well, the original poster either IS a "Troll" (as he's not responded back), or...being called one, scared him off?! As to the question...I've (personally) never owned a bad Epiphone. I've played some, as well as some bad Gibson's, and other's...but, I'd never "buy" a bad guitar, regardless of brand. Though I much prefer to buy what I see/play, first hand...Most (reputable) Mail Order places, have good "return" policies, so there's no reason to be stuck with a less than stellar guitar, Epiphone, or otherwise...IMHO. Blueman335
Love my Epi's! I upgrade the PU's and do my own set ups (as I would with any other brand). I get many compliments on my tones.

diverden
Only one. EJ200 CE. I hate the Esonic 2 pickup system. I bought from a reliable dealer though and they took it back no questions asked.
taxman
Epiphone Casino, Standard - NO REGRETS AT ALL Epiphone Casino, Inspired By Lennon - NO REGRETS AT ALL Epiphone Texan, Inspired By Paul -- NO REGRET Epiphone EJ-160E John Lennon acoustic -- REGRET I don't play it often, it isn't the real Gibson 160, needed much work to get it right (various string brands, gauges, saddle replacement, tuner replacement...) Epiphone SG, '66 model -- REGRET Should have just saved a few hundred dollars more and bought me a Gibson SG Of the two Epi regrets I have I would never get rid of the EJ-160. It looks the Beatle part and sounds the Beatle part. The SG I may sell or just give to someone.
bonzoboy
I have bought 6 Epiphones so far and have never been anything less than thrilled by either one of them.I know enough about about guitars not to buy into brand snobbery, as far as I'm concerned people who show prejudice against certain brands or can't see beyond one particular brand are only displaying their ignorance about guitar brands.I tried out my first Epiphone with an open mind and was so amazed by it that I bought 2 more besides it then and there.I have 2 John Lennon models and I was so impressed by them that I wrote Yoko Ono and thanked her for letting Epiphone release the John Lennon models-she actually answered my letter, but that's another story.Thevery best Les Paul that I've ever played-and I've played many over the past 45 years of playing and repairing guitars-was an Epiphone 1959 reissue Les Paul,it was absolutely flawless and sounded and played like no other I'd ever had my hands on,regretably my finances at the time didn't allow me to buy it. When I did go looking for a Les Paul I looked into the Epi Traditional Pro and the second I plugged it in I was sold on it as it sounded identical to the PAF Les Paul that Robert Fripp used on the very first King Crimson album on songs like Epitaph and I Talk To The Wind.AS far as I'm concerned Epiphones are giving their parent brand Gibson a really good run for the money lately as their quality is just sublime.

ESPJDR17
I'll answer the OP...No. I just recieved my first Epiphone and it has impressed the hell outta me. I have been an American Fender and ESP man until now. I wanted a LP Custom soooo bad I couldn't stand it anymore buy the one I wanted was $3,900 so I turned to the Epi version which was only $550. I am an Epi advocate now. These things are utterly amazing!
Dennis G
Um no, not really. My signature line says it all for me. And my Valve Sr. is my "go to" amp about 90% of the time as well.
