This is the only one I can think of offhand.  This was Extreme's third album.  Not sure if it was a commerical success but I liked it.

"III Sides" was a concept album for Extreme and one thing to note: Nuno Bettencourt had gotten some criticism for dialing in one distortion sound, one clean sound, and using them for an entire album (Pornograffiti).  You can hear on the 3rd album Nuno made an effort to use some different sounds and effects.

yea  but they already thought I was a wack job cuz I didn't have any stones or bealtes albums!

lots of sabbath, mahogany rush, johnny winter, deep purple, trower, zepplin and almann bros, steely dan, et al......

but no stones or beatles

I was an outcast...  a dreg of society,, "look away children, he's hideous...."

And how about that excellent 3-sided double LP "Second Winter"?  Remember the fourth "side" was unpressed and unlabeled.  Just smooth vinyl!

Let's not overlook "Electric Ladyland" . Both the U.S. release and the "import" with the famed "naked lady" cover.  [wink]

And of course, the triple LP- WOODSTOCK movie soundtrack release.  Followed a year later by WOODSTOCK II, a double LP which had some songs not in the film by the artists in it and a few songs by a few who weren't in the documentary.

And too, the forgettable TALES FROM TOPOGRAPHIC OCEANS double LP from Yes.

FREAK OUT by The Mothers Of Invention is probably the earliest double LP I ever owned

No filler on this one.

Took me a year after it's release to finally get it.  Due to at the time it came out, I was stereo shopping and every audio store I went to INSISTED on proving how good some system sounded(and often didn't) by tossing this one on the turntable.  By the time I finally did settle on a sound system I was so SICK of "The Wall" that, like I began, it took me a year after it's release to finally settle my stomach and get it.

Frank Zappa - You Are What You Is, Freak Out, Roxy and Elsewhere

George Harrison - All Things Must Pass (probably 1 album could be culled)

Leon Russell - Leon Live (same as above)

Blue Oyster Cult - On Your Feet Or On Your Knees

Uncle Meat was a double. I like that one too.

The Clash - Sandinista is one. It need to really be a double or single, and George - All Things Must Pass. The last album is a stoned jam session and is awful. It would have been a much better double LP. Yes - Yessongs was a triple live album.

Electric Ladyland

Wheels Of Fire

Allmans - Fillmore East

Skull and Roses - Grateful Dead

B1tches Brew (and Big Fun, Agharta, Pangaea) - Miles

Ummagumma - Pink Floyd

The Individualism Of Gil Evans 2LP/CD version

Enlightenment, Supertrios and Atlantis - McCoy Tyner

Weather Report Live In Tokyo

Flood - Herbie Hancock

Tempest In The Colosseum - VSOP

Moonflower - Santana

....are some that come to mind.  2nd Winter ought to qualify, especially the Deluxe CD reissue.

Blow Your Face Out - J Geils Band has some great moments

Lotus is a live Santana triple which is interesting for the mix (50% for his guitar and 50% for the rest of them)

Many more......[thumbup]

I think The Dead were never better from '71 - '74. They may have peaked in Europe '72. When they came back form Europe Piggy quit and Keith had the keys seat all to himself. He may have been their best keyboard player. His wife was an atrocious singer and screamed in to the mic a lot. I know many a Dead Head that can't take Donna.

Bring It Back Alive by Outlaws (Album, Southern Rock): Reviews, Ratings, Credits, Song list - Rate Your Music

I eat, sleep, breathe, and live that record.  Perfection.  Opened for them shortly after that record.  One of the best days of my life.  I cried when Billy died, I cried when Hughie died.  I miss them guys.

When what we term Southern Rock was still really good. Are there any S/R bands nowadays,

I'm  pretty sure Stevie's "Songs In The Key Of Life" wasn't released as a "greatest hits" compilation.

Unless you're implying that it eventually wound up looking like one.  [wink]

And the German Decca release of John Mayall's "Looking Back" was a double LP.  The U. S. and UK releases were one disc only.
