Murph - I recently stumbled onto a band that's been around for years, but has always been on the fringe of the radar... The Jayhawks. I just like the hooks and the harmonies. Nice SJ in this NPR session by the way. Reminds me of The Birds

Maybe not so 'off the radar', but this old salt writes gritty tender songs. This ain't one of them...

Yep, hip to the Jayhawks.

Splintered history as well.

Nobody new here, but might not be squarely on the radar - Alvin Youngblood Hart and Mississippi Fred McDowell are two guys I've been listening to a lot lately. The other guy that might be off the radar a little is Seasick Steve, cool stuff - maybe too much electric... here he is with Jone Paul Jones doing 'can't teach an old dog new tricks'

'90 Fender Strat (Korea, bought in an open market in Korea... yeah it might be real)

Wow, good stuff Buc! 'cool me down' would definitely be a fun one with a cool little vibe to get some toes tapping.

This has all I love in music. It does not get better then this in my opinion, and with a Hummingbird too!

Some of the gear sites have had some series that focus on the lesser known acts.

LR Baggs - Americana
and
LR Baggs Videos

A couple in particular look good, like a dual called HoneyHoney and some guy named Taylor McCall and Lera Lynn at the bottom of the page on the first link above.

Check out Jack Williams. Not a complete unknown, but somewhat obscure to most folks.
Iíve seen him live 3 - 4 times and am always astounded at his skill and showmanship.

Check out Ryan Bingham, he is not obscure but not mainstream. Mescalito is my favorite album.

Chris Knight is also one of my favorites, the trailer tapes II is my favorite, but there are a lot of good ones.

This song was my introduction to Tyler Childers, and if he had recorded it as a shellac 78 rpm it would fit perfectly into the Harry Smith Anthology - https://www.youtube....h?v=_QzcrflqDCg

M.C. Taylor aka Hiss Golden Messenger is, to my ears, at his best playing solo. The Bad Debt album that he recorded late at night in his kitchen is my personal favorite of his works. Here's a live solo set - https://www.youtube....h?v=I6iVzD06cKg

Also, here's a completely different bag - Baden Powell. This track is from my absolute favorite album of his, Baden Plays Vinicius. If memory serves, it was the last album he recorded, taking one last sweep through the best of the songs he had co-written with Vinicius de Moraes. These are all solo instrumental pieces, moody and introspective. Listen to them with earbuds or headphones and soak it in ... https://www.youtube....h?v=HPLBFcOQUvA

Oh, why not? I just stumbled onto this guy after frequently hearing his songs done by others. This one makes me think, what would have happened if Tim Hardin had been drinking at the same bar near Ipanema with Tom Jobim and that crowd ...
