kidblast
Ever hear of John Gorka? about a minute and a half of banter, but then he gets going. Seen this guy about 5 times, puts on a real good show. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1kt4V4wczsU another is Jack Savoretti http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6w4UWzszhCo
MorrisrownSal
Murph - I recently stumbled onto a band that's been around for years, but has always been on the fringe of the radar... The Jayhawks. I just like the hooks and the harmonies. Nice SJ in this NPR session by the way. Reminds me of The Birds http://www.npr.org/2016/08/05/488873074/the-jayhawks-tiny-desk-concert
jedzep
Maybe not so 'off the radar', but this old salt writes gritty tender songs. This ain't one of them...
Murph
Yep, hip to the Jayhawks. Splintered history as well.
Buc McMaster
Kieran Kane.....right up your alley, Murph. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTYOCw9HvTs This one not so much, but still..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xTkCbx7jok
uncle fester
Nobody new here, but might not be squarely on the radar - Alvin Youngblood Hart and Mississippi Fred McDowell are two guys I've been listening to a lot lately. The other guy that might be off the radar a little is Seasick Steve, cool stuff - maybe too much electric... here he is with Jone Paul Jones doing
Buc McMaster
.....and then there's Kevin Welch. Last band covered this one live. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBeGz836-Ys

Lars68
Lots of good stuff posted! I have a few of my own. Jason Isbell (maybe not off the radar): John Fullbright (perhaps off the radar) Courtney Marie Andrews (likely off the radar): Thastrom (definetely off the radar): Edit: just found this as a side step when looking up the links above. This has all I love in music. It does not get better then this in my opinion, and with a Hummingbird too! Lars
BoSoxBiker
Some of the gear sites have had some series that focus on the lesser known acts. LR Baggs - Americana and LR Baggs Videos A couple in particular look good, like a dual called HoneyHoney and some guy named Taylor McCall and Lera Lynn at the bottom of the page on the first link above. rbpicker
Check out Jack Williams. Not a complete unknown, but somewhat obscure to most folks. I’ve seen him live 3 - 4 times and am always astounded at his skill and showmanship. http://jackwilliamsmusic.com/ Roger
Tyler A
Check out Ryan Bingham, he is not obscure but not mainstream. Mescalito is my favorite album. Chris Knight is also one of my favorites, the trailer tapes II is my favorite, but there are a lot of good ones.

rustystrings
This song was my introduction to Tyler Childers, and if he had recorded it as a shellac 78 rpm it would fit perfectly into the Harry Smith Anthology - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QzcrflqDCg M.C. Taylor aka Hiss Golden Messenger is, to my ears, at his best playing solo. The Bad Debt album that he recorded late at night in his kitchen is my personal favorite of his works. Here's a live solo set - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6iVzD06cKg
rustystrings
Also, here's a completely different bag - Baden Powell. This track is from my absolute favorite album of his, Baden Plays Vinicius. If memory serves, it was the last album he recorded, taking one last sweep through the best of the songs he had co-written with Vinicius de Moraes. These are all solo instrumental pieces, moody and introspective. Listen to them with earbuds or headphones and soak it in ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPLBFcOQUvA
rustystrings
Oh, why not? I just stumbled onto this guy after frequently hearing his songs done by others. This one makes me think, what would have happened if Tim Hardin had been drinking at the same bar near Ipanema with Tom Jobim and that crowd ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jwQfzTrO2A

zombywoof
Bwahaha - How about Tom Rapp (RIP). Was with a band called Pearls Before Swine in the 1960s which shared a label with the Fugs. A couple from the first Pearls LP "One Nation Underground" A great cover of a song we all listened to as kids
zombywoof
A couple of others whom I cannot get enough of. First up is Carla Olson. She started out with the Textones, went solo and then teamed up with Gene Cark and later Mick Taylor. The version she and Taylor do of "Winter" on her Ring of Truth LP is nothing short of amazing. With Gene Clark. Another is Bekka Bramlett the daughter of Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett. She definitely inherited her mother's lungs. Here she is with Billy Burnette (the son of Dorsey Burnette and nephew of Johnny Burnette). If this don't bring a smile to your face and get your *** moving you ain't alive. With her Mom. Talk about making a righteous noise.
