Flight959
I have both a facebook page and a website for my small business. I haven't had a single piece of work out of either of them. Waist of time IMO... Having a personal page is easy to lock down in privacy settings! Regards
kidblast
Doug,, my oldest daughter puts ALL her business out there. drives me crazy. Amen brutha,, had the same issue with my daughter, told her to knock it off many times. Finally, I started showing up in her posts, which solved the issue pretty quickly. I sure am glad there weren't any cell phone cameras, facebook or twitter around in the 70's and 80's. I was able to make it through my dumba$$ years in basic anonymity. My old neighbors may not agree about the anonymity part, lol.

Rabs
Well thanks all for the replies... I guess if I want a business page I gotta just suck it up and do it with minimal stuff on my personal page...
surfpup
Well thanks all for the replies... I guess if I want a business page I gotta just suck it up and do it with minimal stuff on my personal page... I don't think it's that much different. With a personal page you have friends or followers instead of just likes as you would with a band or business page. (Maybe you can get away with setting is up as a band page?). I keep a FaceBook "profile" for Tubular Mods - separate from my personal FB - and I use it occasionally. Once in a while I'll post a new pedal or a link to an eBay or Reverb item. I think customers like the FaceBook presence. Sales generated? Hard to know. But it doesn't take a ton of time to at least have a presence out there, so I'd say it's a good idea for you to do. zigzag
You can set up your account to control who your friends are and who can see your posts and your wall/personal preferences and info., plus you can block anyone you want, report abusers, hide posts to your timeline, and edit and delete your posts. What I don't think you can do is block information getting to marketers and advertisers. Facebook is what you make it.

flyingarmadillo
There is an "Only Me" option and a "Only Friends" option on most of the privacy settings, that should keep it pretty private. However, FB can see anything anytime and, if you post any original pictures or music (or basically anything you hold a copyright to), you grant unlimited free license to FB. That's outrageous. All the more reason to avoid Faceache.
Murph
I've never had an account or been on Facebook. I thought it was for women and children. <_<
badbluesplayer
Potential customers want to see your Facebook page. Many go to Facebook just to see if you have any content there. If you have a business and it doesn't have anything on there you may be selling yourself way short. It doesn't take a lot of effort and it's a very easy way to get recognition. If you don't like Facebook personally you still have to hold your nose and put your business on there. Me and my partner have our little amp business on there and I think Facebook has helped a lot to develop our brand. I've missed the boat on way too many things in life to blow this one. We got amp porn. I try to keep posting stuff. We like to explain how to do amp stuff yourself. I think that really helps too. Anyway, good luck. nick_s
You can indeed make it so you don't return in searches. You can also post things to limited people (it takes a little effort on your part to make friends lists). I use lists so that I don't bug people with things, so I only show my wet shaving posts to people interested, music related to fellow musos, etc. You can indeed make it work for you :)

Well what I thought of doing was keeping build diaries on there.. So I can update that almost daily when I get back to building. Hopefully that could be enough to keep people coming back and keep the page active.
Searcy
Pretty sure you guys couldn't handle what I post on facebook so it's just as well. I'm pretty sure you're right. [lol] Here's what I've posted on Face Book in the last 24 hours. I had to come over here to see the cat pictures. I'm still trying to figure out why posting 15 times a day on FaceBook is stranger than posting 15 times a day on the Gibson Forum.

Retired
I checked out your page Rab's, cool. My opinion, I got off Facebook for awhile, and friends and family were calling telling me they missed me, so after awhile I got back on. I do love the guitar adds, I have several I follow and read commits on each. Mostly I find them all positive on the commits. So I think for your business, it's a good move. You may pick up some customers but it's got to go out to public and not just friends which I think you did right. Are you ready to be a full time builder at a high rate of customers? Lol if I had the cash, a Israel new guitar builder had me sold on theirs, so did Carvin. But so does Guitar Center every time I walk in the door. I'm like a kid in a candy shop that only has 5c and can only get one piece. A hint with all the bull crap that you see on Facebook you don't like. I am constantly reminded, scroll past that stuff and don't read it. Ignore it and don't commit. You can delete some of it or click on Unfollow.
