What do you pay for guitar straps?

What do you pay for guitar straps? There is a local company that makes some ornate straps. Due to increased business her straps now go for $60. Too much?

I need a new 2"+ wide strap for my Epi Sheraton and have really liked the other three straps I bought from them.

I've bought three 2" leather straps in the last few years and they cost the equivalent of between $40 and $50.

If the ones your local company make are really well made then I'd have no qualms about spending the money to keep such local artisan craftsmen employed.

Plus it will probably last as long as the guitar...

I just use a generic 2" black thick weaver nylon strap for general gig use, to which I have semi-permanently attached my wireless transmitter. They are cheap, durable, and of course black goes with any outfit. When I put my current one together I had to buy two straps and swap out the leather ends to get the good, thick, stiff ends I wanted to avoid the dreaded guitar drop strap failure. It lives in the gig bag.

I do keep a nice "logo" strap in each guitar case for "show", emergencies, and general carry-around jammin' and sittin'-in use....but.... A friend of mine gave me a couple of prototypes of a premium guitar strap that he developed and sells. It's a wide fine leather two tone padded strap that sells for $50. Very nice looking and comfortable, and you can order in your choice of colors, and even have it customized with your initials or logo.

So I guess $60 for the strap your looking at is in the ballpark for premium guitar straps, and supporting a local merchant (even at the cost of a FEW extra bucks) is always a good idea.

That's my biggest reason for looking to Souldier first when I need a new strap. I have met and talked to the owner on more than a few occasions at local art fairs and she was kind enough to meet me a local bar years ago to drop of two straps I had ordered; no shipping cost and I got thirty min of cool conversation with another local artist.

I have a beige dickies strap that I got for about £10. But I asked my sister to get me a new strap for my bday so hopefully I'll be some nice leather strap. I normally use 2' but want something wider because heavy guitars are bad for my back and I cant play standing for too long otherwise.

If you like them stay with them - that's not too bad a price- I may check them out for camera straps most of mine are worn out. As for guitar straps I'm paying higher $$ than you - most of mine are from Moody Leather - paid anywhere from $100 - $150 each for them.

I've been using Levi's thin suede straps for as long as I can remember. The ones that are black on one side and tan on the other. They're around $20 each.

I also recently splurged and bought these. A little pricier but not bad with a 2 for 1 deal. Excellent leather and workmanship. Great improvement on tone, too!

I bought a Franklin leather strap for 25

Franklin Straps are made locally, just south of Nashville. I want one but have not found the color I want in the model I want.

They are made in the same town were the old house featured in "It Might Get Loud" is, were Jack White does his thing.

Going by the film you'd think Franklin is in the middle of nowhere but in Reality is a very affluent city, that is where my office is located. There are a few farms left.

I have only 2 straps, a $15 Planet Waves for my Fenders and a $30 vintage style Levis for all Gibsons, Casino and Hofner.

I have two old leather "Pick Poctet" straps from the 80's I gave about $15 for. I have a 2" wide hand made leather strap for the 60's that came with a 66 Fender Mustang I one owned. And I just bought a nice leather Levy for my 89 Gibson Country Gentleman. I never use nylon straps and always use Jim Dunlop strap locks.

I think the Guitar should dictate what strap goes on it. My white Strat looks good in a plain white cotton strap, but my Epi Jazzbox looks incomplete with a plain strap, it needs a nice tooled leather one.

So, if the perfect strap came along for the perfect guitar I'd pay $60, I wouldn't go much higher and certainly wouldn't break the $100 mark, but I believe in the right strap for the right guitar.

One thing that kinda bugs me when I see it on stage is a really nice Guitar with a plain, utilitarian strap that looks like it belongs on a backpack.

For the guitars I use to play shows I bought a couple of straps from a company called Couch. They recycle old leftover-stock materials from car interiors and luggage for their straps. They hold up really well, but they cost between $40 and $50 a piece. They're cut extra long, so for a bigger guy like me who still likes to wear his guitars a little low, it's huge. Was always hard to walk in to a store and find a decently made strap long enough for me to wear my guitar where I wanted it. These have room to spare.

Have this on my LP Studio Faded (the one in my avatar).
