LarryUK
The customs officials (no pun intended this time) should keep watch for a large consignment of Chibsons being rejected back to China I reckon. This is the first thing that came to my mind, but I was thinking Eastern Europe.
PelhamBlueFire
WoW, that's quite a bold thing to do. How are you going to sell all those guitars, though? Doesn't Gibson just have the missing serial numbers availabe for the police? These are certainly flagged. So the only thing the crooks can do, is hold on to all of them. WoW, talk about a collection right there.
Mr. C.O. Jones
I think it's too risky/stupid to do such a thing, and then store the stolen good's. I think those who did that already had a buyer when they broke in

'Scales
True, but that buyer is taking a bloody risk, as well. These serial numbers are tainted forever. ...or in 10 years time when the insurance has long been paid, Gibson is owned by some consortium or other, and any statutes have run their course, it will be considered 'mojo' - like the 'lawsuit' stuff from 70's Japan. stein
Not to state the obvious, but serial#s are often changed or outright removed when dealing with hot goods. Also, even thieves don't consider selling hot goods at full price. If they have any experience stealing, they got usually got at least as much selling. Searcy
http://www.wsmv.com/story/32051379/electric-guitars-stolen-from-gibson-custom-shop NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) - Ten electric custom guitars were stolen from the Gibson shop on Elm Hill Pike on Tuesday morning. Police said surveillance video shows a man cutting a hole in a fence and breaking in through a door around 3:30 a.m., leaving with the guitars a short time later. An employee said they only make custom electric guitars at the facility, making the minimum price for one of the guitars several thousand dollars. Officials were not able to get a specific description of the burglar but said he was driving a white car. Employees said, after watching the security tape, they believe this man knew what he was doing. Anyone with information about the guitars is asked to call the Hermitage Precinct at 615-862-6993 or Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. Gibson Brands CEO Henry Juskiewicz issued a statement saying in part: We at Gibson Brands are saddened by the break-in to the Custom Division where the world's most valuable and unique guitars are hand made by Nashville crafts people. We are actively working with law enforcement officials to investigate the situation while we seek the recovery of our property as well as the apprehension of the person or persons involved. Nor was it monitored at the time. ...and that remark about the 'man knew what he was doing'. What does that mean? That he didnt stumble or forget where he was? All they really know is that he drove off in a white car. Yep, that narrows it down a bit. Everybody keep your eyes peeled for a white car in or around Nashville. 10 guitars? I thought it would be 3 or 4 times as many as that. Plenty of members here have much bigger collections. Come to think of it, we'd better check any newbies NGD threads. deeman
It was an inside job. And frankly, for one person to get away with 10 guitars is pretty good. I can only carry 2 at a time at the most.

stein
I lost more in rustled cattle than that heist. I'm not feeling sorry for any multi million dollar companies. Stealing affects more than just one, more than just the company. If they were someone's orders they were waiting on, they were robbed of months of wait time. If Gibson makes an insurance claim, the premiums go up. Means more expensive guitars. If they have to install more security, means more overhead/cost, more expensive guitars, more a PIA for the employees. If the police makes efforts to catch these guys, it's time lost doing other things and catching other guys. Jail, court cost, etc. Taxpayer money. Might have to write more tickets for the people of Nashville. Thieves are expensive. Cost others a lot of money and effort for little gain for themselves. It's hard enough for honest people to make an honest buck, that those making a dishonest buck don't take into consideration what they do to others. Fat cats seldom pay, but pay we all do in the end.
