Dream guitars

Started electric in about '65 with an ES125-TC and did not lust for anything different until about '69 at which time I wanted a Les Paul. I got a used goldtop in '70 for $300. It had soap bar cream P-90s which I didn't care for that much so routed out the top and had humbuckers installed. Played it like that for about 25 more years through a Twin Reverb. [thumbup]

A sunburst double bound maple neck Telecaster. Came very close to owning the Jerry Donahue model, and the guy that was selling it told me NOT to buy it. Said it was Japanese and a slice of crap...his words. So I figured he was an honest man...I was willing to shell out $850 for it. Next Fantasy guitar is either a Byrdland or a Super 400. Maybe one day. A Midtown would also be nice... if they ever bring them back.

Back in the 60's everyone wanted a les Paul, a strat, & a Ricky 12 string. Oops I'm showing my age again. Any who, what did you dream of when you first started playing guitar???

Did you get them?

speaking of dream guitars, jon uli roth's (scorpions) Dean 'sky' guitar is quite unique, both feature and shape wise.

the roundish tear drop shape is something other than the traditional single/double cutaway shape that i like. the fret board is scalloped and unusual, the higher frets are laid at microtones, different intervals from the standard, i think like 1/4 tone intervals.

when i was your age (lol) ... my dream guitar was that mid-eighties white strat with lace sensors. dreams change, bought an lp (which filled the dream space quite well).

Black es355 with gold hardware and lyre. Nowadays I'd take that or a Pelham blue one, absolutely love that color.

Yeah, an ES-345, and/or ES-355 are BOTH on my "Bucket List!"

IF I (actually) get them, is another story! [unsure] Sure would

be nice, though! [biggrin]

.

I started about 66 on my brothers knock off Strat. I bought and sold off-brand stuff until I finally got a used 65 Melody Maker around 74, but I really wanted a figured burst LP.

Man, paying the dues on a couple of those off-brand "guitars" was brutal. . .

I guess... From the beginning I wanted a really fine classical guitar. Now I'm thinking a less-than-fine nylon AE set up more like a flamenco guitar.

Electrics... Never really had a super want list. I kinda walked into the 175 and the old Harmony archtop; swapped around and ended up with the Guild S100c that's an SG clone... Now a double bit of semis and another archtop or two just kinda happened.

For me, it's more looking for a magic feel than anything else. I'd like a better 12, but just a better flattop and mag pup with onboard control would do fine.

My first dream guitar was the reverse Firebird VII in sunburst or Cardinal Red-I could've bought one-a '64- at my buddy's guitar shop in the mid 70s for just $450 along with a late 60s 1959 Marshall 100W plexi with factory covered White Elephant Hide Tolex with Electric Blue grill cloth for $900 but I could've got both for $1,100 but didn't have the presense of mind to take out a bank loan to get them or the foresight to see what they'd end up being worth.

My other faves are a 1961 SG bodied 3 pup white Les Paul Custom with a Maestro vibrato-that I also could've gotten for $450.

Like all Beatle freaks I love Rick 325s and 360/12s,Gibson J-160-E,Gibson SJ-200,Martin D-28,a Gretsch Country Gent,a '65 SG,a '61 Sonic Blue Strat and Ramirez Classical guitar.

,

I'd also love to own a '54 Strat,another "L" series Strat, a Fender Coronado II,a 70s Fender Starcaster,a Jazzmaster and a Fender XII.

A Coral Electric Sitar would also have a prime spot on my list.

I partially succeeded in getting some of my dream guitars,I have a Sunburst Custom Shop Firebird V,an Epi G-400 Les Paul Custom,an Epi EJ-160-E,an Epi 1965 John Lennon Casino,a natural Casino,a '66 Gretsch Tennessean.I'll need a lottery win to pick up the rest...lol.

Odd, but now that I think of it, most of the gear I wanted rarely had anything to do with my guitar. I wanted a 12-string so I traded my 6-string for it way back when I was a "yute".

I've always just found a good tone with watever I had and used that.

Most of my "dream guitars" were more people's personal ones.

A Cream colored Les Paul like Randy Rhoads (my next purchase is an LP)

Black Ibanez Destroyer with 3 pickups like Phil Collen (never got one, but do have and Explorer)

Hot Pink Jackson Soloist like Jeff Beck had for a while (Never got a pink one, but several Jacksons and Charvels)

BC Rich Gunslinger with a Nagle graphic like Tracii Guns or CC Deville (never got a nagle, but have one in hot pink snakeskin..lol)

White Firebird like Robin Crosby (actually missed the chance to own one of the jackson custom shop versions)

LP Gold Top with P90's Like Mike Ness of Social Distortion(........I can dream can't I?)

I'll throw in a dream amp too......Tweed Bedrock full stack like Aerosmith.

All in all I can't complain.......I've owned many very cool guitars over the years.
