duluthdan
Had major reconstructive surgery in my mouth last week and am unable to sing, and struggle to talk. I'm practicing my ABCs while I walk the dog. Recovery going well, but speech is gonna be a while, so, I figured I buy me an old time open back banjo from Elderly's and learn me some claw-hammer. I stuffed my old friend of 62 years in the back to dial back the volume, he won't mind, he's been through worse. I did look at a Gibson banjo, but with a price north of $2,000 I figure its not very responsible to drop that kind of dough even before I've figured out how to tune one of these darn things. Smile Fierce !!!
Jinder
Great purchase Dan, I’ve never mastered the Banjo but have had a lot of fun trying! Sorry to hear the news about your surgery, wishing you a speedy and effective recovery.
Cabarone
There's a lesson in there for all of us...Life hands you lemons, learn the banjo! Seriously, glad to see you taking a positive course of self-therapy...here's to a speedy recovery!!!
aliasphobias
Wishing for you a speedy recovery Dan. Check out J. Romero banjos once you fall in love with that. I had to let go of a pretty nice Gibson guitar to afford on (how many guitars do we actually need, [don't answer]). In for a penny in for a pound. Smiling fierce with you! sparquelito
A great banjo, blessed by a great old teddy bear friend!! Recover well, and remember, if they call you 'Ban-jovi', that's not necessarily a bad thing.

BluesKing777
Get well soon, Dan! ...but don’t leave the banjar outside overnight - there could be 4 or 5 more by morning! BluesKing777.

Dave F
I wouldn't worry about it Dan. There's so many Dylan wannabe's out there that sing nasally with their teeth clinched, you'd fit right in. All kidding aside, I hope you have a successful recovery and get back to what you enjoy. Personally, I love the banjo but the wife prefers I don't have one in the house;)
MissouriPicker
Hope you're healing quickly, Dan. We miss those "Dean Martin" vocals....lol......Anyways, I've got an open back banjo (Fender Rustler) and it's pretty sweet. I just play around with it. Do a couple songs now-and-then at a gig. Nice instrument for the money. Easy to play for ol' codgers like us....unless we're trying to get to the Roy Clark playing level...lol...... Plus, about 80lbs lighter than lots of the resonator banjos....Have fun with it, old friend. I bet it would go well with Box Top Tamborine. MorrisrownSal
Hey... speedy recovery Dan... It’s great you are branching out. ‘‘Twas recently I locked in on the mandolin. Actually played a gig tonight and used the mandolin for six songs or so... But banjo? That takes a man. A real man. Or that wacky looking kid in Deliverance. Good luck with it! Lars68
Hope you get well soon, Dan! Banjo, I don't even know where to buy one of those where I live. Don't think I have ever held one. Lars

MissouriPicker
Dan, this morning around 3AM, our neighbor was beating on our backdoor......yelling something about noise. If I hadn't been up playing my banjo, I'd wouldn't have heard him. Don't let all those banjo jokes bother you. They're a blessing.

dhanners623
I've had plenty of people who have advised me to stuff things in my guitar, but it was usually uttered in the spirit of, "Stp playing...." Seriously, though, I hope your recovery/rehab goes quickly. DO WHAT HE DOCTORS TELL YOU. When I have ignored their advice in the past, I have paid a price for it. Cougar
....so, I figured I buy me an old time open back banjo from Elderly's and learn me some claw-hammer. .... I used to try to cover Sandy Bull's Little Maggie on my old 5-string longneck (I could only get so far with it). Have fun with that thing!
