Congrats on that Mandolin!! Owned a "Mini Mo" for a while. I believe the company was Mid Missouri Mandolins for a while before coming Big Muddy. Had fun trying to play along with some Zeppelin tunes and of course all of the Ozark Mountain Daredevils songs.......Enjoy that fine instrument!!

as well as a 1923 F4

Your '23 F-4 would be more of a holy-grail for me than a '23 F-5. An absolute thing of beauty. On the other hand, if I had the F-5, I could sell it & buy a fleet of F-4s!

In the meantime, my trusty '22 'A' will have to do. Not quite the bling, but all the tone!

I have a very old mandolin I got from my Grandma. Found this wiki about the maker.

John C. Haynes & Co. was a significant American maker of a wide variety of musical instruments in the late 19th century including mandolins. The company manufactured guitars sold under the Bay State, William B. Tilton, and Haynes Excelsior brand names. The company was set up by Oliver Ditson in 1865, and ceased guitar making operations around 1900, selling its facilities to the Vega Company.

Off subject... has anybody have a clue why I can't imbed images into my posts like you veterans? All I get is this garbage and my upload quota is used up?????

'Has'nt Hit Me Yet' - Blue Rodeo

Nice guitar/mando tune with a Gibby mandolin and a vintage Epiphone acoustic, and is basically an alternate national anthem up here in Canada, along with maybe 'Bobcaygeon' by The Tragically Hip, 'Sundown' by Lightfoot, or 'Four Strong Winds' by Ian and Sylvia.

Owned a c.1920 F-4 for a lot of years - now have an A-4 of the same vintage, which suits my style a little better. Love the bark and cut of the old F-5s, but don't play enough mandolin or have enough $ to consider that option.

I already sold off a few. Here's the few I have left. All but one will be leaving this year. I'll probably give away the two behind the Gibson and sell off the Mandocaster clone.

Nice,

Without knowing the changes to the building/tuning techniques developed by Loar, looks-wise the earlier ones are pretty close.

I love the looks of those early 1900's.

Well, you've got the "image location" (img src) correct. You just need to put img tags on either side of it, like this:

That should give you this:

Chris Thile is probably the most versatile mandolin player on the planet. He can play anything, including a remarkable recording of the Bach partitas and sonatas.

He bought that Lloyd Loar mandolin with a good chunk of his MacArthur "genius" grant. He may actually have two of them now.

I first became aware of him when he was a teenager playing in Nickel Creek with Sara and Sean Watkins, which seems like a lifetime ago. Hard to believe that was almost 30 years ago.

He's alright.

Ya gotta watch him though.

He tried to steal my old Gibson once...……

Wow Sal - Congrats on on the mando, condolences on the yankees symbol. I've got a red sox one up here that's just the right size to cover it up if you want... says 'world series champs on it'.

Serious though, awesome buy. I may be slow to the game, but starting to appreciate how to add texture to music with different instruments.

Ha Ha, you beat me to the Yankee logo comment, being a Cub fan I was gonna harrass Sal a bit...seriously, nice Mandolin..good luck with it.
