EuroAussie
What ya sayin' about Pigeons Stein ... ?? ;-) Maybe they should make all the guitars that get returned into a "Pigeon" model.
AnneS
What ya sayin' about Pigeons Stein ... ?? ;-) Speaking of pigeons...in the early 70s ('73, maybe?), this song came along on the b-side of "Daniel," and I was a goner. Turns out it was one of Elton's and Bernie's very first collaborations, written in maybe '68, and wasn't released on an album until '79 (an icky, imo, harpsichord version). Came around again in the 80's, when he sang it at Ryan White's funeral. Not until youtube did I get a chance to hear this again. Turn me loose from your hands Let me fly to distant lands Over green fields, trees and mountains Flowers and forest fountains Home along the lanes of the skyway For this dark and lonely room Projects a shadow cast in gloom And my eyes are mirrors Of the world outside Thinking of the way That the wind can turn the tide And these shadows turn From purple into grey For just a skyline pigeon Dreaming of the open Waiting for the day He can spread his wings And fly away again Fly away skyline pigeon fly Towards the dreams Youve left so very far behind Let me wake up in the morning To the smell of new mown hay To laugh and cry, to live and die In the brightness of my day I want to hear the pealing bells Of distant churches sing But most of all please free me From this aching metal ring And open out this cage towards the sun http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AbLdEiVgVE&feature=related You and the Mrs. might not be able to look at your pigeon visitors in quite the same way... Jinder
Anne, that's a beautiful song. One of my favourites. I'm a huge Elton fan, especially that '69-'77 period. Every record was incredible. A friend of mine has just inked a deal with Sir Elton's film production company, and EJ himself turned up to witness her contract signing, decked out in a razor-sharp suit and royal blue patent leather shoes...at 10am! What a legend. That aside, I REALLY like the Sparrow. Long scale, square shoulders, RW back and sides, groovy pickguard...I want one!

Mmm nice. I like "Blackbird" too. And "Bird on a Wire". ( Anyway - Back to the original question - Last tally, I think with Jinder, we now have 4 members who like the "Sparrow", and many who do not - because of the PG.) It will be introduced next Thanksgiving. Ta-Da !!!!!...The Taylor Turkey

Del Nilppeznaf
I don't know.. Sparrow..... From a British point of view,,, a sparrow is like just an everyday speck of a bird. See them every where...nothing special.. Where as a Hummingbird..or a Dove well to see one of those would be a treat id like a guitar to be something special.... or at least not a Sparrow.. really cant see any Europeans buying one..unless a Gibson collector 2 cent
ParlourMan
The "sparrow" makes me think of some little parlour wannabe such as the little Martin or baby Taylor or something......
ataylor
They should have gotten this girl to design the pickguard for Gibson's new bird. http://crestonguitars.com/guitars/sarah_ryan
TommyK
Prototype Pickguards: Here is one of the prototype pickguards. Close to the final version, but some differences with the sun, boat, and background water: Here is another prototype pickguard with a totally different artistic take on the theme: What do you guys think of these? - Jason Smith I think this is a good basic design. I like the second sparrow's detail, especially for a guitar at this price point. The first sparrow's spread tail, looks more natural for a bird in flight. The delicate waves of the second look better. The boat needs to be a bit more fleshed out too. Maybe a clipper ship?

Harmonics101
Wow, look at all these responses and opinions. I think like other things Gibsonesque, that pickguard will grow on you. Heck, the Hummingbird pickguard had to grow on me since i had a dove pick guard upbringing myself. If indeed what Jason says happens, i.e. that Sparrow comes in with a red burst, I think that pick guard is gonna pop and look tons better than against the natural finish. I'm definitely all ears, especially after picking up another Guitar Center made guitar (Hummingbird Pro) and being EXTREMELY satisfied with sound and overall quality of the guitar. It would also be my first red spruce topped east indian rosewood guitar made by Gibson. Yeah, call me stupid i should have purchased an AJ eons ago but with this Sparrow and maybe in red burst, that AJ purchase may have to wait. I'm really looking forward to checking one of these out at the GC. Actually, i think i might actually call 'em tomorrow !! Thanks for stoking the gas ! thevalleygirl
I don't care for the pickguard, the clouds look like a 4 year old drew them... I haven't hear what it sounds like. What's up with the 1930's bracing?

Windwalker9000
I'am not to keen on the idea of owning a guitar called a sparrow. I for one believe a name like songbird would not only sound better but attract more attention and more interest !!!!
brannon67
The guitar looks great, but I would have to remove the pickguard for sure. Just doesnt do it for me.
