saturn
Well, I turned 49 today. My beard now comes in pretty grey (gray?). Many people tell me (at least to my face) that they think it looks good. But the weather is warming up, and I bet that it will start to get hot and itchy. So, what does the Forum community think? P.S. The porn mustache stays either way.

tx-ogre
I have had a beard for the better part of 25 years. I shaved it off briefly a couple of times over the years, but couldn't get use to be clean shaven. I have much more gray in my beard than in my hair, but it doesn't really bother me. Digger
Grey beards make you look distinguished! (and interesting according to my wife). Hope you had an awesome birthday and many more!
StRanger7032
I second the Just For Men idea. Just get one shade lighter than you think you need or it will be too dark.
cody78
Shave, then grow it back. I tend to have a beard for about 6 months, then get bored of it, shave it and start the process all over again. Same with haircuts - I leave it 1 to 2 years, then have a short haircut, then grow it super long again. I always find it strange when people go through life with the same haircut & beard/ no beard for years and years.
glp2012
For me, it would be a cost savings issue. I've got better things to do with my time and money than shave. Keep the beard and spend the money on your guitar (new strings, a capo, glass slide, etc...). Oh, and I wouldn't worry about the grey...it happens to the best of us. 'Scales
Happy Birthday. I'm not really a fan of beards, but I think it suits you - a bit Grohlesque! So keep it... ...and then spend the razor money on a decent haircut man!! (actually if you aren't colouring your hair you're going very well for 49! )

Dennis G
Just shave off the grey bits. A Yosemite Sam look maybe? ;) Or a patchwork quilt LOL. Whatever you decide, please make it age apparent if you will i.e. don't dye the beard to hide the obvious grey hairs elsewhere, LOL.
saturn
Thanks for all the opinions. I'm sure you all realize I made the post just to be kinda silly. But I really am considering shaving the beard pretty soon. I used to start growing one every year around October or November and the shave it in the spring. I stopped growing it about 3 or 4 years ago when it started getting grey. I've never used, and probably never will, coloring for my hair or beard. I'm not sure what made me decide to let it grow this year. I'll probably get rid of it in the next few weeks. So. Who else here has facial hair? StRanger7032
So. Who else here has facial hair? I've had a goatee for 22 years, minus 18 months when my job didn't allow it. I'm so used to it at this point that I don't think I'll ever shave it off again.
brad1
I grew a mustache and beard at 18 and had it until I was 20. I shaved off the beard and had a mustache until I was about 25. I then shaved it off and have had no facial hair for the past 30 years. I had hair past my shoulders also until the age of about 40 when I finally cut that as well. Not because I was losing hair. I just got tired of dealing with it. The older I get, the lazier I get.
